RPI is showing the painted rears including all parts needed, minus rims and tires for around $1900. If I used wheel adapters and my current rear wheels, could I really do this mod myself for 2 grand? Wide booty that is. I have found the instructions by atomic vette that make this conversion seem very doable?

Yes you could. You would need 1.5" wheel adapters to push your narrow wheels/tires out to the edge of the rear quarters.
It would look a little weird but most people won't notice.

Heres mine just got done recently.need to get it painted around April.no wheel adapters on this one.do the swap yourself.you will save some $$.use the money to buy your wider rims and tires.
I just finished ordering everything for my extreme widebody kit, everything including tires and custom wheels was about $12,000. it will be a few weeks before everything comes in, and a few months before its all done and painted but I hope to have it all ready by riding season.
Ordered the painted rears complete package from RPI. Many great reviews on the paint work and fitment. Looking forward to tackling this when it arrives.
I went with the pre painted RPI widebody kit. Came paint matched to my Blade Silver car spot on. The RPI kit came with all GM mounting fasteners, inner fenders, brake ducts, splash guards and rubber moldings. The fenders are not from GM but fit great. 3 years ago got it shipped to my house for just under $2000.00. Sent 2 of my street wheels to Weldcraft and had them widened 2"s for $500.00. Bought 2 345/35/19's new off the auction site for $600.00.
I decided later to change the nose but went with a Ecklers Z06 nose for a base car. Cost $600.00 and another $300.00 to get it painted and installed.
I installed the widebody myself and was really easy to do but had a shop install the nose. So for under $5000.00 I got the look I liked without going broke..

Absolutely love the look of your car. I also ordered the painted zr1 spoiler from RPI as well. Hope it turns out as well as yours!
As mention in previous post, do the install yourself and save money. I used oem rear quarter panels and front bumper from Gene (CULTRAG). Front fenders came from Xterme Super cars.
I really like how it came out.

If I can add .......when you become a wide-body now your rear quarters are subjected to the same effect that Z06's and GS's are subjected to. That is a sandblasting of the rear quarters by rocks and pebbles sent there by the front tires. Its a design thing . to get away from that get some front splash guards(I found aspis best) also some "cleartastic" or similar product and do the rear quarters. Don't wait to see if IT WILL HAPPEN because it will. Just had my quarters repainted and applied "cleartastic" Even though I have this protection I can still see where pebbles have hit. Good Luck

Its exactly why we designed this kit...
The rear fenders stick out and are subjected to rocks & debris thrown back by the front tires. Rocks & road debris get around mud flaps and skirts/rockers. This kit protects where it gets hit!
