Testing FOBs

When looking at cars and test driving them, how do you test both fobs to make sure they are working. How far away do I have to get the first one to check the second one to make sure they both work?

Tell the salesperson to stand a few feet away from the car with one fob while you start the car with the other one inside the car.

Also, just pushing the buttons on the fob will show you that the fob is programmed to the car. You should be able to get the car to flash lights and/or honk horn at 100 feet away.
