On my '08 there's a material between the windshield glass and mirror that perfectly hides the ugly EZ-Pass box from outside view. Does anybody know what this is? Will it block the signal?
I've painted the box black so it is not quite so ugly, but this really hides it and so would be great if I can get away with it...
With previous cars I have put the EZ tag in the tinted/shaded area with no problems. With the Corvette it is different. I have heard that the material may block the signal. I put mine right under it and behind the mirror so I can't see it but it does show from the outside.

That's the antenna for the AM/FM radio. The toll booth should be able to read the EZ Pass if mounted behind this section of the windshield. You'll know soon enough first time thru!
If the area you're talking about is all the way at the top of the windshield, to the right of the rear view mirror and left of the NAV/XM antennae, on the black matte "paint", then yes your EZ-Pass will work. I have mine mounted in that exact spot and it is completely hidden from outside view and slightly hidden from driver's seat view. I want to Plastidip the tag black to blend everything out.
I put mine there and it works, i ride a HD Roadking and keep the EZ-Pass on the underside of the rear saddlebag and it reads thru that , so i don't think a painted surface would be any problem, and lastly if the EZ-Pass is registered to your plate the camera would just charge your account as normal without any fines.
I have my EZ pass transponder on the passenger side of the mirror, up high, directly behind the so called blackout material. I like others, have wrapped the white portion of the transponder with a matte black wrap. It's almost impossible to see, from inside or outside.
I don't have a front license plate, so unless they read the rear license plate every time, that material that you speak of does not affect the signal EZ Pass transponder one iota.
BTW, on a C6, the transponder will also work if it is affixed under the hood on top of the plastic radiator support.
I know of a couple of people who got in trouble with the law because they painted the EZ pass. At least in NYS you don't own it. It's like a lease. Both got nailed on the Thruway at a toll booth.

Wow. They don't have better things to do? I hope my state is not so stupid. If they are, I hope they just let me pay for the thing...

Here in NJ I never use mine in the Corvette. I just blow through the toll and instead of the tag # on the bill, I see my plate #.
My daily driver, I painted the EZ pass tag black. I painted everything except the part which has the tag #. It's been like that for years and never a problem. I used Flat Black BBQ Paint. I figured it could get pretty hot stuck up to the windshield.

It will not block the signal. I also painted my Illinois ipass flat black and mounted it using 3m dual lock Velcro between the rear view mirror and the rectangular Onstar box. Works perfect.

In Illinois it's a lease also. There was a mandatory update so I had to hand in our old ipasses (both painted flat black). I got evil eye and then I reassured the clerk that I was going to do the exact same thing to the new ipass units. What's the worst thing that could happen? Waiver of the $50 deposit. There is a sticker that comes on ours that I remove. Email yourself the serial number and adhere the sticker to a sandwich bag and place in your glove box.
