Very nice! I always liked the original Challengers and Dodge did a good job of retro on the new ones. Keep us updated occasionally on how it holds up and if you have any issues.

The wife drives a 2014 Charger SXT+. I was against it based on Dodge's quality history; it's the car she wanted and she went ahead and bought it. It's been in the shop one time in the two plus years we have owned it; it left us stranded when it wouldn't come out of park and wouldn't shut off (even when I pulled the battery cables!). I finally found a fuse that would shut it off. We waited 3 hours on a Chrysler tow to the nearest dealership. Of course they didn't find any codes the next day and it started up and ran fine. The dash was lit up like a Christmas tree when we were having the issues. The dealership did find a TSB and reflashed the pcm; we have had no further issues and it's been about a year and a half. I've added a few mods along the way and have to say that I've been fairly impressed with how well buttoned up the vehicle is; you can see a ton of Mercedes influence in the attention to the details on the hidden bits and pieces that hold the car together. It appears to me, at this point, that Brampton does a fairly good job on their build.

I like the SRT8 a lot, its what got me into my GS, had a nice black on blk/red 2013 that I knew the previous owner thru my son but he traded it in, Dealer was out of line with his profit margin, I knew what he gave for the car.
It is a big car
Anyways I started looking around at Camaros then found my GS, end of story

The interior change they made in what was it 2014/15 made these cars a lot nicer. The old interior was horrible.

I love how it looks in black!

I was certain I was going to buy a Challenger before I bought my GS.
I may still get one someday. I'm preparing for retirement in 10 years right now though.

Nice car, but I'm a bit confused on the financial situation....not that it's any of my business, but you brought it up. I would think if money was a problem, a used Nissan Altima or Ford Fusion would be in order. People who need to make big changes when considering their priorities usually don't buy $40,000 vehicles.

Not a switch I would make. You did it to cut living expenses? Then why buy a $40k car? MANY C6s sell for well under $40k...

They are nice looking, though.

Love the car but you need to drop it to get rid of the 4X4 look. :-) Enjoy

I like the Challenger as well but I'm also a bit confused about you saying you had to cut expenses and end up with a $40k car? My GS cost me $47k new with all discounts so I can't imagine how much you saved from one car to another?

Am I the only one here not a Dodge fan.

Not a change I would ever make but if you like it, that's all that matters.

But the low end torque from a big block is intoxicating! And it is very quiet inside, just the exhaust sound. In addition it shifts very smooth. But in the end it was to cut my cost of living expenses since I work in the oilfield industry. I needed to get something cheaper to weather the storm. When things turn around, another Vette is in my future. I also got a employee discount, which is 1% under dealer cost. So that made it very cheap. But when I drive it, I don't feel like I settled very much! The brakes and suspension are very good considering the weight. So for the price it is a great car! By the way, it is the Scat Pack, so my price was around $37k before tt&l, so I financed less than $40k. And I had to have a black one...looks mean!
Now you got me wanting to sell mine!
Question:
Looking to reduce costs too...
How did it reduce your cost of living expenses? You had to have gotten around 42k or less on the GS making it almost a break even in total cost of the Challenger after TT&L. Plus the resale on the challenger (since it is brand new) in comparison with your old GS (with the depreciation already in it ) is going to depreciate more form now into the future than the GS. So at resale you may actually get less than you would have gotten in the GS.
If it was a monthly payment thing you could have refinanced the GS and dropped your monthly payment to the same or less than the Challenger.

Not trying to be nosy or anything just trying to do the same thing...and no matter how I look at it, I dont save much unless I buy a 25k car or less...and even then the resale value is really the key unless you plan on keeping the car forever....

Since everyone seems confused, I will elaborate a bit more. I had a payment and insurance on a GS, and my payment is based on my loan, not what you can buy one for now.I was also paying insurance on my daily driver. I didn't want to give up having a sports car all together, so I sold the GS and my daily driver. I then bought a new car with a much lower car payment and I'm also saving insurance on one car. I will daily drive the Challenger, whereas I didn't want to do so in the Vette. And altogether I am saving over $400 a month. In addition the sell of my daily driver paid for my tt&l and also left me enough to pay off another debt that saved me even more money.
So in conclusion I reduced my monthly debt by over $500 a month and I can still drive a NEW car under warranty that I enjoy being behind the wheel of. So to me it's a win win situation. I had other options, but this is what I chose for many reasons.
Hope that makes more sense.

Well, like I mentioned in my other response, I had a daily driver that was paid for. So I was paying one high car payment, and two insurance payments.
I sold my GS for $42k and I owed $40k. I sold my daily driver for $5k. I had $7k profit that I used to pay tt&l on the new car, and I also paid off a credit card and put the rest in savings. So I am saving over $400 a month just in car payment and insurance alone, since I am financing $15k less than the Vette. If I refinanced I wouldn't have saved as much. In addition the credit card payment was a little over $100 a month. So I was creative with my options and did what I thought was best for my situation. I was lucky in a few ways, one being I got a good price for my GS, two I got a great deal on the new car with my employee discount. I also got no extra options on it. They had to locate one and ship it to my dealership because all the ones they had were with around $6-8k in options. I told them my price range was less than $40k or it defeats the purpose. I could get a old Corvette I don't know the history on or a brand new big block Hemi Challenger. We know my choice.
In conclusion everyone's situation is different. But I am going to enjoy the muscle car and keep it. Then when things turn around in my industry, I will add another Vette as a garage queen. All of my past Corvettes have been second cars and therefore not daily driven. Just my choice.
