Default Fuel Level sensor - Differences????

I have searched hours on this so I felt it was time to ask.

I have the dreaded fuel indication problem. I have tried the techtron option with no luck.

I replaced the drivers fuel pump with a new part from Racetronix. It was the Z06 replacement. It was an complete assembly with new sensor.

To ensure that I get the right sensor for the passenger side, does anyone have a process to verify the type of sensor I have in the driver's side (05-06 or 07 - later)? I have read there is a difference in the resistances of the early Vettes and later ones.

Thanks

Since you don't tell us what year and style C6 you have, you will need to go to a website that has GM part numbers on it, and it will list the OEM part number for your year and model vette. Or, if you trust your vette service dept, they can help you too.

You can take your VIN# to your local Chevy dealer and have them look the part up for you and then see how much they want for it......you need to take the part number with you to go online to get the best deal though.....

Once you have the part number type it in the search on Ebay. There are GM dealers on there selling cheaper than anywhere else. And most part numbers come up with something on a search.

Car is an 06 base model.

I think my problem is a mismatch of sensors. I replaced the drivers side pump with one from Racetronix. Pump removed would not hold consistent fuel pressure. The Racetronix unit came with a fuel level sensor. I do not know of that unit has a sensor for later vettes or it is for the 05-06 vettes.

I was looking for the resistance values for the 07 and later vettes as well as the 05-06 vettes.

Problem now is that the car never reads full. Research has shown that the passenger fuel level sensor needs replacing now as well.

Since it looks like I am going to have to drop both tanks, I may as well get the units for the 06 vette from Zip Corvette and replace both.

From a write-up I did when I added resistors to fool the gas guage instead of replacing sensor:

FUEL SENDER OPERATION
The fuel level sender changes resistance in response to the fuel level. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the signal circuit of the primary fuel level sender and the secondary fuel level sender in order to determine the fuel level. When the fuel tank is full, the primary and the secondary fuel level sender resistance is low and the ECM senses a low signal voltage. When the fuel tank is empty, the primary and the secondary fuel level sender resistance is high and the ECM senses a high signal voltage. The ECM uses the signal circuit of the primary and secondary fuel level sender in order to calculate the percentage of remaining fuel in the tanks. The ECM sends the fuel level information via serial data circuit to the instrument panel cluster (IPC) for display in the fuel gage.

(The RH tank sender for 2007 and up should test to 247-253 Ohms from Half full to Empty and 38-41.5 Ohms at Full. 2005-06 are opposite of these readings.)

Thank you very much. I will look up your write up. I think I the new fuel pump and sensor is for a later year like 07 and up. I noticed something yesterday, from half tank down, the gauge starts at empty then progressively sweeps up as fuel is burned. I think that this confirms that the new unit (pump&sensor) is for a later year.

you may want to contact member schpenxel. he went through this and installed the wrong year senders. he fixed it by going into the tune and modifying it to make them work.
