I have a 2009 vette that has roughly 57k miles. A month back I filled up with gas and I received a message on my dash saying to service fuel system. After googling the issue, I thought it was the sensor that needed cleaning, so tonight I used Techron to clean the fuel system. A few hours later, I started my car and started driving and my check engine light was on. It is not my gas cap, I tried that. Has this happened to anyone, or does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on what maybe happening?
I have used techron several times in both my 08 and when I had my 96 and never had an issue in either car when I used it. In the 96 the fuel gauge quit working and after several uses techron cleaned it up and it worked great after that
It's really anyone's guess if it was related or coincidence without the actual code that was set.
If the CEL isn't reset by a scan tool, then in my experience it takes about 12 engine start cycles for the CEL to go out assuming the fault cleared in the first place. Take the car to an AutoZone and let them pull the fault codes for you. If not the gas fill cap, it might be the emissions vent solenoid that has failed. It is ~$25 part accessed underneath the car inside the rear drive tunnel wall. Had to replace mine on the 07 vert a couple of years ago. Its failure will set a CEL.
Doubt if the Techron was the cause.....I use a bottle of that stuff every 3K miles ...no issues. But more than that....at Carlisle this past summer , I attended a a "clinic" presentation by the "Corvette Mechanic " guy who 100% recommends the use of Techron to maintain the health of the fuel pump mechanism in the C5 & C6.
Went to Advance and ran the codes. The only thing the guy saw was fuel sensor was high. He cleared it but said the car retained the code so it may keep coming back. Could this be because techron is in the fuel system? Or is this a real sensor issue that needs to be replace? Also does anyone know cost of replacing sensor or if it actually needs to be replaced, how serious is the issue. The check fuel system alert only comes on when I fill up with gas but will go off after a few start ups.

Never top off the tank. When it clicks stop. When you turn the cap pull out and don't push in.
I'd replace the fuel cap. You can't tell if it's good by looking at it. The auto parts stores can test it.
It maybe the cap but I have had the car for 4 years and this issue just started a month ago. What are the long term problems if it is the sensor in the fuel tank? Does it have to be replaced or can I just ignore it?

Then you haven't replaced the cap yet??? ..These caps can go bad at any time, and not show any outward signs that it's bad...I just bought a new cap on ebay 3 weeks ago "$16.00 including shipping", put it on, and my problem with the "Service fuel System" light went away after starting the car 7 or 8 times...If you haven't replaced the cap, do it now..9 times out of 10, when you see that message on your dash , it's because of a bad gas cap.....WW
