I drove my nephew somewhere the other day, and when we got out of the car he said, "You're missing a hubcap." Sure enough.
I assume someone stole it, but I wonder if these caps ever come loose on the road. I pulled off another one just to check, and it seemed to fit very snugly. I can't imagine that a cap would just fall off.
I've ordered a used replacement, 15 bucks on eBay. No big deal, but I hope this doesn't happen again.
They do fit very snugly indeed, in fact they are hard to remove without taking the wheel off and tapping it from the back.
You would have to hit a pothole or bump pretty hard to pop one of those suckers off.
Pretty much the same. It's the OEM wheel on my 2007 base coupe.
I was able to pull off another cap just by pulling on it with my fingers. It was snug, but not that hard to remove. I was just wondering if maybe the cap hadn't been reinstalled properly when some work was done in the past, and then worked loose. Theft is the most likely, though, and I did park it at Wal-Mart recently. {shudder}

I lost one also. The plastic clips that fit over the lugs broke off and the cover fell off. A lot of times you will hear off someone complaining of a rattle. This is also loose center caps.

Thanks. Maybe I should check the caps on the other side of the car.
Exactly...there is a difference between a hub cap and a wheel cover.
Back in the day when steel wheels were common, a hubcap covered only part of the wheel, generally just a cover over the lug nuts. Many were very plain chrome domes, some had logos, etc.
A wheel cover, on the other hand, covered the entire steel wheel. It was the full diameter (e.g., if you had 15 inch wheels, the wheel cover was also 15 inches).
I've never heard the center cap call a hub cap, but I suppose you can call it what you want.

I see you're in Mountain View. I've stayed there about a hundred times when I visited Ames. Can't remember the name of the hotel, but it was sort of a mom and pop place. I love the entire Bay area.
