Default caliper covers

Was out yesterday doing some errands and saw what i thought was a really nice looking camaro. Then i got close and saw the caliper covers I have to say they really look like ****. Just a huge flat metal slap painted and covering the calipers and they aren't cheap @ 200.00 a set. Sure as hell am glad i had mine painted by a shop the difference is unreal.

They have been kick around on this forum as to yes or no on C6's. The vast majority on the members will say no to putting them on. I say it is up to the individual. I would not put them on '07, but if someone else does it to their car, that is totally up to them.

I've seen some funky trends here on the CF and Corvette owners since 2003.

This one is really odd.

Then again, I drive my C6 with snow tires in the winter months, I don't think anyone really agrees with that.

If your gonna put caliper covers on then why don't you just put wheel covers on too?

I figure that those covers are kind of dangerous too!

I looked at them and didn't care for them. I went ahead and got a caliper paint kit and painted mine. They turned our very nice, and for only ~$30.00

Default Caliper covers!!

Hi

I picked up a new set of covers ( metal) here. Are you saying that they are dangerous and can come off?

Thanks

Alan

Anything can "come off". The problem with caliper covers is if they come off there is pretty much one place they can go....into your wheel/tire assembly causing damage to just about anything that is round. I don't want to sound like Chuch Cow and say you will die! To me the damage is not worth the risk. And they look cheap...to me. Your choice.

Don't need the covers if you have a nice set of wheels!

I hope that's a PhotoShop ....

I suppose one reason for getting the covers over painting them is that the person wants the calipers to look larger, like the Z06 ones.

I've never seen/read an issue with them flying off but I guess it's possible.

I know many on this site don't care for the mod but I don't mind them. I prefer the covers to the stock base brakes.

They do look larger but they also tend to look like cheap plastic.

My opinion is that caliper covers are ridiculous. They are quickly discovered as fake and the buyer exposed as a poser. I don't blame vendors however. They are obligated to sell whatever people will buy and it seems someone's buying them.

Still, it seems akin to to putting "Turbo" stickers all over 80s-90s (non-turbo) Honda Civics with fartcan mufflers. Yo...

Anybody that can take the wheel off to put those things on can paint the caliper just as easy. No excuses.
