Hello All, jeez it's cold.

Shortly I'll be upgrading the wheels and tires on my 2012 GS. Does anyone have a preferred Tire pressure monitor or should i I just go with what Discount Tire is offering ?

Thanks

ron

I replaced my tires at about 5 years. I replaced the TPMS sensors with OEM. I figured that if the originals lasted that long I would continue. Also, my car is bone stock and I chose (paid for) OEM. Others may have other experiences. I kept the old ones and I can replace the batteries and reuse if necessary.

The wheels you choose could alter which TPMS sensors you need. Not too many aftermarket wheels will accept the OEM style sensors. I went with band mounted sensors in the center of the wheel when I changed my wheels.
Buy the wheels first, and then figure out what sensors will fit.
If your new wheels have the valve stem on the inside of the wheel, make sure there is clearance on the caliper and top of the steering knuckle before mounting the tires.

I'd go with OEM.

The wheels are OEM Z06 wheels from about 08 or 09 chrome. I think unless someone can convince me, I look for a deal on some recent and new oem .
Thanks everyone.

If you are using OEM wheels, go with OEM sensors. They can be had for a reasonable price on Amazon.

I may be missing something but why not just transfer the sensors over from the old wheels? If you note the position, they won't even need programming.

The batteries have a limited life span. We don't know how long the current sensors have been in use.

2012 tmps's, just install the old OEM to the new rims; using new Rubber TMPS seals.

The TPMS batteries will last around 6 years min, and some have lasted up to 8 years on cars not driving much instead.

As for the after market TPMS, the down fall to them is the batteries only a last a few years, and they have to be replaced again.

I have two sets of wheels, one from 2006 and one from 2007 and all the sensors are working fine. If the sensors are currently working on the car, then just transfer them over.

If you need a set of OEM sensors, I have a set for sale from my 2012 that were removed in 2014 at 1,600 miles and 1 1/2 years of use. (Long story, but I bought my car from an estate with just over 1,000 miles on it. It had sat undriven for almost a year, hence the miles/time.) You can always PM me if you're interested.

I have originals and I'm coming up on 9 years in April. Only 52,000 miles though. Never any problems.

I'll be getting OE sensors. I'll be keeping my original tires and wheels intact, this need a set of 4 sensors.

The ones on my 2009 are still going strong.

I had a 2003 C5 that still had the originals when I got rid of it in 2012 ... so they lasted 9 years and were still good. That car had about 120,000 miles on it.

I had one replaced and made the mistake of not asking to see the new one first. It didn't match the others. Bottom line is be sure you are also happy with the cosmetics of the new one.....chrome....black...etc.
