Yep, the Grand Sport RPO is Z16. The code originated in 1965, and was used to designate a Chevelle with a 396. Only about 200 1965 Z16's were ever built, and they are fetching big money these days.
So, unlike the Z51 performance option, Z16 describes the car, in the same way as Z06 and ZR1 do. Hence, my licence plate:

Just curious, if GM had used A16 for the GS RPO code would you have that on your plate?
I just like the way it sounds Z51.Z51 Z51. Mine is a base model n has a Z51 performance package.
Z06 n ZR1 there is no substitute! But when you have a base model and have a Z51, it's the performence package I like. There is a difference in the base n the Z51 n Z06 n ZR1. I drove all but the ZR1.
Speaking off Z51. Back when I got my Vette I thought it would be cool to have a Z51 badge on the side of my car kinda like the Z06 has. After careful consideration and seeing how people criticized you for even calling it a Z51, I changed my mind. Here's my delema. I responded to a post of a guy that sells those badges and now every time someone responds or hes does his BTT I get an email. How do I remove myself from that thread so I no longer get reminders?

Too bad you took inane elitist comments to heart. Nothing whatsoever wrong about sticking a badge on you car to identify a carefully thought out package which delivered better brakes, better handling, and gearing changes for an extra kick in the butt. Better brake and oil cooling as well, I believe. Should folks who got FI on their C2's remove those badges even though it was just an option which provided less measurable performance advantage vs. the top carb option than the Z51 C6 provides over the base version? Of course not.
I saw this silly nitpicking line of cr@p emerging when I responded to the OP a couple days ago. Not surprising my prediction was correct...

Didn't those FI badges on the C-2's come from the factory that way ?? I also don't think I ever saw one of the rare "Tanker" cars come with a badge that said "Tanker". I guess back in the good ol days it wasn't such a priority to have everone know that you had a bigger gas tank than the next guy.....

If people want to refer to their Corvette as a 'Z51' and/or put a Z51 badge on it, I don't really see the big deal. Obviously, given the number of companies that offer/sell Z51 badges there must be a pretty good demand for them & a number of people putting them on their Corvettes. I don't have them (badges) and, if asked, just say mine has the 3LT trim & Z51 performance packages.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
