Recently got a 09 z06. Trunk release hasn't worked since I got it. It won't work when I hit the button under the steering wheel, fob, or button by license plate. I DO hear a little/faint click in the back by the latch mechanism when I try to open the hatch via fob or buttons. I have heard of people saying to clean the mechanism but I haven't seen any how tos or detailed pics.
My guess is that it is a dirty latch, shouldn't be a fuse since I can hear a latch back there, correct? If someone could help me go about cleaning the latch or other ideas you may have that would be great. Pics below of what I am experiencing.
Please don't send me the DIY of cleaning the rear license plate trunk release button because that isn't the issue, it won't open at all electronically.
You didn't say but implied that the key works which is how you are opening the hatch, yes?
Just because you hear a noise when you try to open using one of the electric methods doesn't necessarily mean the latch mechanism is okay. I think you need to do some detailed diagnosing there.
All I can offer is how to remove the whole thing which might make diagnosis easier, see post 5 here:
It could very well be a dirty latch mechanism, but unlikely since this is inside the vehicle, and shouldn't be subjected to a dusty environment.
You can try removing the assembly, spraying electrical contact cleaner in the mechanism, and at the pin connectors.
If that doesn't improve the issue, then your likely looking at a new latch assembly.

Thank you. Another update. I went to check 2 fuses ( hatch release and tonneau release) and it looks like they aren't there. Am I reading the diagram correct? Looks like there should be more than one large fuse in the section I circled in red and blue. Can anyone shed some light on this?

The 2 fuses your looking for are found in the passenger footwell :

I figured that out, but if you look at the pic it doesn't look like those 2 fuses are there. Those 2 fuses are in the diagram I circled in red and blue. That diagram doesn't match up with the actual fuses that I pointed to, right?

It's on the side of that main fuse panel under the cover.

Thank you, I don't know if my computer didn't load this pic in the last post or you edited the original post, but I didn't originally see this. Will go check it out now!

YW,
I also added the pic of the Footwell fuse panel, The one on the side, remove cover to uncover fuses.
Both fuses looked good. Well, the one normal fuse (trunk release), fuse looked good, the other one is a lot bigger and different looking which also was working. Any other ideas? Looks like the next step will be ordering a new release/actuator and replacing it. Wheres the best place to get one that I can return if need be?

With the fuses good, check the wiring at the connectors, and the pins. Clean them with contact cleaner. Check the ground as well. You never know, it may be loose or corroded.
Follow the electrical schematic to check the wiring for the connector at the latch.
You can always get the assembly from a parts car. There are a few in the C6 FS section that likely has that still available as it is not a high maintenance item.

Good Luck
Were is this ground located that you are talking about?
Thanks, if the ground is loose wouldn't the other components that are also relying on that ground not be working?
If the ground is loose, then yes, all circuits using that ground would potentially have intermittent issues as well.
Here is the 3 circuits that use that common ground
in the C6 Coupe/Z06
For the rear hatch assembly, you should check that the connector pins, including the ground wire is in good condition, and the wires are in good condition, not pinched, etc.
If all that checks out, then you have a bad assembly that needs replacement.

It takes only a few minutes to clean. It might be sticking. It costs you nothing but a few minutes of your time.
