I am preparing to paint a carbon fiber hood A O. My question is would anyone know what color primer [ light or dark ] GM used on atomic orange C6 corvettes. I am sanding a black GM CF hood and it has black primer. I was thinking they might have used a light color base on atomic orange cars to make the finish coat brighter. Has anyone done any sanding on atomic orange paint. If so what did you find?
Your help would much appreciated...Thanks
I think all of the factory carbon fiber hoods have black primer coat on them.
I have seen a couple of NOS units and they where all flat black primer.
My ZR1 hood was flat black under the factory black plant.

Thanks I appreciate your input. But my question is about atomic orange primer. I have sanded the CF hood to the primer and discovered it is black. So I assumed all CF hoods with a dark finish would have a black primer. What I do not know is if GM would have used a dark primer for a bright color such as atomic orange. I would like for the paint to match the first time and not have to repaint or do a test match.
Just hoping someone has gone through this and might be able to help.
Thanks again...E.
It's about 38 miles to the nearest GM dealer with a body shop. also I doubt they would have worked on a A.O. I have had this car since 07 when it came out. In and around Tulsa I have only seen one other A.O.
There are probably others I just haven't seen them. I feel my chances of getting the answer would be better on this forum.
I do appreciate you help.Thanks...E

My Silver car seems to have white primer at least on the door edges, however the rest has black primer, might just be chipped through as the plastic seems to be white

Thanks..........That helps.
Anyone else have any exp.
Bear in mind that the carbon fiber hoods where all made and primed at plasan.
Final paint for carbon fiber hoods and fenders where painted in Fort Wayne Indiana.
Any reference to how fiberglass is primed is likley useless.
I would suggest that you spray out some test panels to see what works best.
One must also consider the years of aging on your current paint when working with paint messages

I think you mean well and
I do not mean to be rude but what you are telling me is not helpful.
I just would like to hear from someone who has knowledge of the primer. That's all.
I am trying to save some time.
I am not a total dumbazz I can paint.
This is my car and some of my work.
Took best in show at J.O.A.S.W. Dallas.
Whenever I get get paints from my jobber 2 things either he or I ask is VIN number and Value Shade of the primer. Wherever you are sourcing your paint would be best.
