Default What ELSE to do when replacing harmonic balancer?

It looks like my 05 is having the dreaded harmonic balancer problem. Wobble/permanent squeal.

I know having this replaced is a big job. So I'm wondering if there is any other mods or maintenance I should have them do while they're replacing the balancer?

Also does anybody have the exact part number for ATI balancer for a 05 ls2.

Thanks in advanced!

ATI balancer part # 917246, this is the one I have on my 05, mn6. I also had them pin/key it.

I asked the shop what performance goodies could be done at the same time and he recommended a cam since they would be most of the way there.

You are nowhere near the camshaft with the balancer replacement. It goes on from underneath, the suspension cradle comes out, and the steering rack comes down. New belts and a crankshaft seal would be about it. I know, my car just went through a lengthy ordeal of poor quality new GM parts. BUT, I have a new steering rack, EBCM, trans cooler lines, power steering lines all under warranty. It drives like a new one.

You're kidding right? So you had the dealer replace the parts and you saw exactly where the the cam is once the HB is out? The last items left are the timing chain cover and the timing chain assembly.

If you decide to replace the cam at any point, the steering rack and HB have to come out. If you are replacing the HB for wobble, you are half, if not more through the process to get the cam out.

OP...cam is a good option for performance. Just remember the rest of the upgrades you have to do along with it (think springs\pushrods\etc) and also the smaller items like the gaskets and tune afterwards. Albeit, its well worth it in my opinion.

Definitely replace both belts. They have to come off anyway. If they are still stock parts, you may want to grease the bearings in the tensioner and idler pulleys while the belts are off. Easy to do and they will need the grease after all this time.

No, I'm not kidding.. Having the rack out is hardly 1/2 way to the cam. The radiator, ALL the accessories, alternator, ps pump etc. not to mention the intake and everything else. The balancer is a 5 hr job. I imagine a cam is easily 3X that.

Replace the front seal that the balancer slides into. A lot of people don't and then are surprised when it leaks.

You might want to look at something like this if a cam may be in the plans later on. No need to mess with the balancer at that point.
