My daylight sensor that turns on the headlights seems to have failed. It thinks it's night all the time. Is this a ridiculously expensive repair with the dash and should I simply turn the lights on via manual versus automatic setting? Or can it be repaired reasonably?

pretty easy to change the sensor if that is it pops right out
Although I would want my car to operate as designed (under MOST circumstances), other than a slight decrease in fuel efficiency, why not run the car with the lights on? This provides even better visibility than DTRL, with little downside. Just a thought (again, I like the engineering to behave as expected, but this is a a no-cost option). Good luck!
One uses plastic prys to lift the center dash grill and the sensor is easily unclipped from the grille and from the wiring harness with your fingers through the grille opening of the dash.
Unsure on the sensor price yet I recall it is inexpensive.
I'd go for the DIY fix!

That sensor also is part of the HVAC system for auto mode.
Might be a separate sensor in the module or might use the same one, not sure.
