Default Another Fuel Sensor issue

I have 2 C6's an 05 and an 07 and the 07 is having the dreaded issue with an erratic gas gauge. I am 90% sure it is the passenger side sensor and have looked at all the threads and have done the Techron fuel system cleaner twice now and the problem got better both times.

My question is has anyone had any long term success with the fuel Techron? The reason I ask is I am not completely sure it really did anything and it is possible the gauge self corrected after 20-30 miles.

Ihe first time this happened I ran the tank to nearly empty so I added the Techron and it went away. I decided to run the tank fairly low again to see what would happen and the next fill up the problem came back so I added another round of Techron and once again the problem went away with in 20-30 miles.

I plan on not going below a 1/4 tank for the next fill up and see if that helps but would like to know if I just need to plan on dropping the tanks in the near future. I have the manual and it doesn't look all that bad but I relay don't have the time at the moment so any experience with the fuel cleaner would be welcome.

Thanks in advance FD2BLK

Using Top Tier gas all the time, and adding 1/2 bottle of Techron every 7k miles (don't want too much cleaner), we've had no problems over three Corvettes (2001-2006-2009) and 200k miles.

Many people have reported the Techron treatment fixes their problem, a few have had it fail.

I have never had an issue either 175k on my 01 no problems but it looks like a fairly common issue with the C6s.

Found a you tube vid that has me thinking the worst the vid showed the copper leads on the sensor wore slam off

If you add the techron to an empty tank it all goes in the drive side tank. The drivers side tank fills first and then the passenger side fills. I fill to 8 or 10 gals and then add the techron so it goes in the passenger side first and then it transfers to the drivers side as the tank goes down. If I had a problem I would put a bottle in first and then another after I finished so to be sure to clean both tanks.

I had issues around 80k. I have been running a bottle of techron every few months or as often as I remember to pick one up from the store and I now have 160k without any issues

I have the dreaded issue as well. Every time I fill it up and then start the car the gas gauge gets erratic. However if I drive the equivalent of consuming about 3/4 of one gallon of gas BEFORE shutting the engine down the issue goes away.

On the other hand, if I shut the car down before the issue self corrects the next start I will get the CEL. Then after I eventually burn 3/4 gallon AND THEN AFTER THAT start and stop the car 2-3 times, all is good again. Until the next fill up of course. I think you need to drive at least 5-10 minutes for each of the 2-3 successful starts and stops.

I've tried Techron but not like a few have commented on this thread. I ran the tank low, added the Techron, AND THEN filled up. No positive results. I may try what others have suggested in this post wrt Techron.

From my experience , Techron is only a short term fix. The root of the issue appears to be physical wear on contacts within the fuel sender.

My 07 with 95k has been doing it for ~10k miles. If I fill with over half a tank left, it doesn't do it. Bought 3 bottles of the cleaner and it didn't help at all. I added them with the tank near empty, for 3 consecutive fillings.

Thanks for all the reply's, I went ahead and ordered both sensor Kits and it looks like I will have a job for the weekend.

I see no point of dropping one tank only to have the other sensor fail a year from now.

I am curios as to why the problem seems to happen to the passengers side tank way more often though.

What i do is this. Since each side holds 9 gallons i wait until pretty empty, pour half a bottle and fill it up to 9 gallons than pour the other half and top of the passenger side tank. I Think this more evenly distributes it but than again i know that i am being A retentive , too much analyzing i am sure they equally work as the fuel from both thanks are being mingled and mixed continuously.

Have you dropped the tanks before? If not I would search the forum and YouTube videos about replacing a fuel sending unit. The first time took me a few days from start to finish. Second time was about a day.

Because the right tank empties first where there is always fuel covering the left one. I understand not being submerged more often causes the problem with the right tank. It does look easy in the manual but i have read some posts here from people who have done it, not so in real life. Apparently that crossover is very finicky to undo and do, be careful and don't force anything or you will break things. Any how write back and let us know how it went. Force be with you!
