Default Vette No More

Hi all! I'm sad to say I've traded my 2012 Grand Sport for a new toy and, as sad as it is, I'm excited at the same time.

I traded the beautiful Torch Red Vette for a Hyper Blue 2016 2SS Camaro with silver rally stripes and black wheels. The vette was and is an awesome car and will forever be burned into my memory, but I just couldn't resist the new Camaro with all of the accolades and praise it's been getting.

Never fear, there will be another Vette in the garage in the next year or two. I plan to find an early C6 roadster at some point, but for a while I'll be Vetteless!

In the mean time, I think the new Camaro will satisfy the smile requirements. So far I've been very impressed in every regard!

I'll continue to monitor the forum so I don't miss out on any good info, but I suppose I'll be spending some time on the Camaro6 forum as well.

Camaros are nice, and I'm a fan. However, I tried one between my last 2 Corvettes, and soon after I was missing the Corvette -- they're a nice musclecar, but the difference is quite marked. Glad to hear you're already admitting to a Vette comeback!

Ha ha!! I've always been and always will be a Vette guy, but I had a 2015 2LT Camaro that was my wife's daily driver. We both loved that car for what it was, but the 2016 is a whole new animal based on the Cadillac ATS Alpha platform and it's a very nice all around muscle/sports car! I hate to say it, but it's much more enjoyable on the road than the Vette was. Around town it's hard to beat the Vette, but I was never really in love with highway cruising in the Vette. The Camaro is quicker, smoother, quieter inside, and much more comfortable for a daily driving machine!

You can't be too sad since you did trade it in.

Sometimes you get an itch that just has to be scratched.

Where is the photos of the new ride?

Enjoy your new ride!

I'm a Camaro fan but not as much as Vettes. When I sat in a new Camaro a few years back I was disappointed in the visibility and the basic "look" of the interior. Have they changed the interiors the last couple of years?

I hope for your sake that the 2016 Camaros don't have the 2 huge blind spots beside the rear window like my 2011 Camaro did. That's why I only kept it for 8 months.

I think I saw you over on Camaro6 in the "who traded their C7 for a Camaro" thread or something like that haha. I would agree that the Camaro is probably as quick as the Corvette, and that it has tons of features and creature comforts...but it's $42k out the door if you're lucky and buy a barebones 1SS. That's silly to me. I got my CPO 2012 Grand Sport for $37k out the door. If you really put options on a Camaro you are spending $55k when it's all said and done. Uh, I definitely can't justify spending that kind of money right now and if I could, it would be on a car and a truck/suv.

To me, the Corvette is about more than just "being faster than the others". It's a symbol, whether people admit it or not. Not just a "status" symbol...but more of a national symbol. Because it is impractical, a little rough around the edges...but it oozes rawness and pure win. And I like the thought that I'll be able to drive what is known as "America's Sports Car" around. That's why it's my dream car, because growing up, you saw it...and you just had to say, 'Murica. Most of the guys over there on the Camaro6 forum say they traded in their Corvette because of 3 reasons.

1.) They are too old/broken to get in and out of the vehicle anymore.

2.) They needed a more civil and comfortable DD.

3.) They needed back seats.

Those are 3 things I don't need in life right now.

Happy for you OP that you were able to get the car you wanted, and I hope to see you back over here in a while. I spent at least 10 times as much time over on Camaro6 as I have here...and it's a fairly civil community. As long as you don't say compare a Camaro to a Mustang.

lol i have a 2015 camaro and i can't wait to get rid of it.

You're right, comparing both, and ONLY when talking about daily driving, i'd pick the camaro. But even with those duties, the car is annoying. You can't see out of it. I hate when people say, "oh you just have to get used to it, then its ok". The problem is that doesn't change the fact that it's hard to see out of, but you're FORCED to deal with that problem. It's just a matter of how far your patience will go. During the summer months, it's livable, because with daylight, you obviously can see better.

At night time, forget it. Getting around town, parallel parking, getting in car parks. Then if your windows are tinted?? LOL Forget it. Might as well just call yourself stevie wonder.

I bought my '15 with like 6 miles on it. And it has a harsher ride than my '12 GS lowered, on a 19/20 setup. When i hit a bump in the camaro, i can feel it. With the corvette i can't. And that says a lot.

Maybe they changed the ride a bit on the '16 and i sat in one (didn't drive). It's nice. But then again every 2016 car is nice since every car has gotten a '16 update. The car is still terrible to see out of. No way around that.

I actually wanna trade the camaro for the new 2016 malibu. Now THAT is a nice car.

If I needed a true DD and couldn't use the Equinox when I wanted...I'd get that car. Such a sweet ride for what it is. Chevy is doing good things.

Congrats. I have always liked Camaro's and was impressed with the Gen 5 when it came out. But I couldn't give up my Vette for one, so my wife suggested I keep the Vette as my toy & get a Camaro as my DD. So, I bought a new 2013 2SS RS and have enjoyed both since. IMO, the Camaro is a great muscle car, where the Vette is a sports car. They are both a lot of fun to drive, but for different reasons. I have checked out the new Gen 6 and am impressed with some of the improvements.

Enjoy the new ride

Two weeks ago I took my vette out and wound up at the Chevy dealer and they had a new camaro parked outside near the showroom. I pulled up to it and got out to take a look to see what the rave of the new camaro was about. The only upside to me is the corvette engine housed under the hood, other than that, it's still a camaro. My car being a 2012 GS is worth almost what a 2016 camaro 2ss is going for. What do you think a 2016 camaro 2ss will be going for in 2020? They don't hold the value a corvette does and don't someone come back and tell me about the sticker price difference, I know. My point is I paid $49,000. For mine last year and I could probably get $46 or $47 grand today. Try that with a new camaro 4 years from now. Lots of luck.

All good points....some a bit misguided! lol!

The Vette and Camaro are apples and oranges, and each has its strong points and weak points! I do however think the apples are beginning to graph to the orange tree though!

The Grand Sport was/is stunning and, in my opinion, so is the new Camaro. The things I like about the Camaro over the Vette are basically the things that make it a better daily driver for my use. The Camaro will be my wife's daily driver and it will just perform that duty year round better than the Vette could. I love the Vette, but it's just not as nice on the highway.

As for blind spots, yes, the Camaro has poor visibility, but in my opinion, as bad as it is, it's still easier to see out of than the Vette was, and at least it has a backup camera, cross traffic alert, and blind spot alert to help with the visibility issues.

Additionally, the Camaro has the magnetic shocks that are amazing at giving the best of both worlds, and where the Vette's monster tires grabbed and pulled at every groove in the road, the Camaro drives straight and true with very little effort.

Yes, the back seat is a joke as far as carrying a person, but who cares? I have to laugh every time I read an article that goes on and on about how tight the back seat is in any 2-door coupe as if coupe buyers bought the car and then were shocked and disappointed that they couldn't fit their 5 teenagers in the back! Obviously anyone looking a a Camaro isn't overly concerned about how many people they can put in the back seat.

No one has to try and convince me of the virtues of a Corvette! Corvettes are Corvettes and nothing else even comes close to being a Corvette! I get that! I know what it means and feels like to own a Vette, I've had several and loved each one. I was ready for a switch for a while and really like my choice in the new Camaro. I didn't buy the Camaro because I thought it was a better investment, or a better car, I bought it because I have an appreciation for all performance cars and wanted something different for a while.

I'll post some pics when I get near my computer!

The blind spots seems to be a huge deal...surprised nothing was ever done about it. Remember when the camaro was the poor man's corvette, seems they have closed that gap these days lol.
