Hopefully the winter weather has passed by. I decided to rescue the Vette from the barn and begin to modify her a little. I'm sure Mother Nature will slap us one more time. So far the Borla ATAK cat back is on, new spoiler, Alpine touch screen with back up camera, and tail lights. Waiting for the rear wide body quarters to arrive so I can put the new wheels and tires on. Here's a before and after.
Six years ago I joined a group doing a drive from Las Vegas, NV to Birmingham, AL for the 45th anniversary of the Mustang. This was in mid April. I took my '69 Mustang convertible on the trip. The first day out we hit a light snow storm at Flagstaff, AZ, but the balance of the trip to AL was pretty descent weather. On the way home we took Hwy. 80 to get a look at more of the country. This was pretty far into April. We were alone at that point with the show crowd returning in the "every man for himself" mode. I hit massive winds from TN to NB. Spent two days with white knuckles trying to keep the old pony on the road. In WY we were hit by a downburst. Not rain but wind driving a ton of rocks and dirt in all directions. I counted over 60 chips in the hood of the Mustang before I just took it to a car wash in Rawlins and tried to blow all the mud packed into my headlight buckets out. Next day we left Wendover, UT (next to the Bonneville Salt Flats) for Reno, NV. Got caught in a real blizzard from Battle Mountain, NV to Reno. I had planned to stay in Reno for the night, but the weather man was saying that another storm was blowing in from the coast. I only gassed up in Reno and immediately headed for home in the S.F. Bay Area before we got the Donner Party treatment in Donner Pass. I think it was Gene Autry who sang about the beauties of "Spring Time In The Rockies". Lying ba$tard.
BTW, the paint job, stainless trim, windshield and headlights in the photo above were all paid for by Hagerty.

My Corvette is officially back on the road! Took the cover and tender off and brought it in to the shop for alignment, inspection, and wheel balance. All set to go! It was cold today but roads are clear and the sun is shining!
I realize that it's a gamble to bring her out of the barn now, yet I am glad I did. I've got the wide body rear quarters due in in a couple weeks or so and I'm carrying the new wheels and tires in the back of my Tahoe ready to install when I get the quarters on. The side skirts are nestled in my bedroom also waiting to be installed when I get use of a friends lift. I'm thinking of ordering the exhaust port filler panel to install at the same time as well as the license plate holder for the front. (it has a suction cup one on for now) The side marker blacked out LED's are in my room too. I didn't realize how much stuff there is left to do.... At least the exhaust, spoiler, tail lights, and touch screen with back up camera are all done.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
