Yesterday almost pulled the trigger and ordered Michelin tires for my GS from Tire Rack. But before I did checked with there recommended installer in town and they told me they would not guarantee no wheel damage when they changed the tires.
Will Discount Tire cover any wheel damage if they cause it?
I get all of my tires at Discount Tire and they always let me out to the shop to watch up close and personal. The manager there tells me that they are responsible.
The guys at discount tire by my house are top notch. Just be sure to tell them you are particular about your wheels and that you expect them to be returned in the same condition. The discout tire local to me has always understood and agreed they would be responsible for any damage they caused.
Unfortunately they did damage one of my chrome wheels, but we all make mistakes. They kept their word, apologized for the mistake and had the wheel re-chromed.
Another very satisfied Discount Tire customer here
I had a slow leak develop, and when they checked it out, it was a cracked rim. The manager loaned me one of his personal Z06 rims for a couple days, until my replacement arrived.
They tested my tire/rim, moved my tire to his rim, balanced/installed it, then moved my tire back to my new rim, balanced/installed it, ALL FOR FREE!!
I get them business any time I can, and go there for all of my tire/wheel related work.
And, they will always match (and usually beat by well over $100) any "total installed" price that I find while shopping too
More I learn the more confused I get, lol
Just called Costco and they will do $1,425 mounted and balanced for all 4. This is $100 cheaper than Discount Tire.
I aggressively shopped tires for my DD (not Vette) and nothing could beat Costco. There's something to a membership place that has no bad paper ever and almost no stock shrinkage.

Don't be afraid to ask Discount to match Costco price. I did the same thing and Discount matched Costco's price. Very
I already called Costco and they have to call Michelin as the tires don't show up in their computer. If anything happens and they cant order them will give Discount Tire a call.
Thanks for the help.

When you show up at the Costco to order the tires, then they will say, sorry, your vette came with run flats, we cannot install non run flats on it. I went back to tire rack and bought it from them and supposedly a high end tire shop install them, they still scratched my wheels. Those run flats are B to take off.

Not true. Costco knows the car came with run flats and they know the Michelins I want are not run flats. We discussed this when we talked. No biggie anyhow, if they cant get the sizes will call Discount Tire.

Long ago, and far, far away, when Sam's Wholesale Club was in it's infancy, I remember that they sold General Tires far cheaper than anyone else. It was understood that the tires were marked as SWC tires, and no other General Dealer would touch them for warranty purposes. I was just talking to a friend, and he remembers that Michelins were made for SWC, and had the same issues. Michelins had "SWC" stamped into the tire for identification.
I do not know Costco, but I do know that all tires are not equal. I would check to see if the tires for Big discount dealers and warehouse sales are the same tires made for all other retailers, or are they made to different specs to meet a price point.
Several years ago I had an expensive set of brand new custom wheels scratched by Discount Tire. (these wheels were brand new out of the box at the tire shop 2 of the 4 were damaged,) The repair meant stripping and re-powder coating the two wheels, at a cost of $950.00. Discount Tire took responsibility, opened a claim for damages, authorized me to get them fixed, and then fully reimbursed me for the repair. From the day the damage was done, to the day they handed me a check was roughly two months. They treated me very fair.

I've found the key to making sure your wheels are taken care of is to simply request that a salesman or manager inspect the wheels with you prior to any action and notate any flaws on the service ticket.
I also stand in the bay watching the tires being dismounted and mounted to make sure I'm aware of any damage WHEN it happens (not after the fact).
Doing this eliminates any chance for discrepancy if accidental damage occurs.
I can tell you that in 20+ years of literally having hundreds of tires mounted Discount has only damaged two wheels, one of my F250 pickup and the other on a Infiniti G37. In both cases Discount sent the wheel out to be professionally repaired and when the repair company could not match the finish on the G37 wheels paid for an OEM replacement.
Can't speak officially for Discount Tire... but I will tell you that I've used them for years w/o any significant issue with mounting/balancing.
That said, I ALWAYS find a tactful way to tell the guy writing up the order that 1) I'm picky about my rigs 2) I really like my wheels and 3) that I'm confident that their techs will do a good job.
The ONLY thing I can bitch about is that the last time I took my FR-S in for new shoes, the tech did not use their industrial strength adhesive remover to get the old balancing weight adhesive off the inside of the wheels. I brought this up when I recently brought the Vert in for new shoes and the guy was very apologetic and told me to drop by anytime and they would take the wheels off and clean up the unsightly residue.

I bought my A/S+ and PSS tires at Costco. Talked only to the manager, explained about how much a new chrome wheel costs. He took full responsibility and said he would only have his best guy on it. At that time, Costco included the road hazard warranty in the $14 mount and balance fee, but Tire Rack charged about $35 extra for it. By the time I figured mount and balance, Costco was a chunk less money. When the PSS runflat came out for the C7, my guy was the one who got the stock numbers put into the Costco inventory system. I would certainly go back again.
Costco is out. They called back and told me the "new" price was $1,575 installed including sales tax. Looks like I will be ordering from Discount Tire.
