I bought a 2007 C6 and when I replaced the battery I noticed the negative cable has been shortened due to corrosion. Can I just clean and extend it somehow so the clamp rest and fits properly, or do I have to replace the whole cable? If I have to replace it where are the connections underneath?
You can buy a new cable end. Don't see why it wouldn't work on a Vette as well as any other car. Some who know more may chime in with some good reasons not to do that though.

If you can afford to replace it, Do it! It is a Vette and it should have and look the best!
Negative cable bottom end bolts to the side of the motor just above the starter.
If the cable is bad, then replace it.
Hence the OEM charging system on the car is already sedate, and not a good idea to give it more reason to charge the system even slower/more questionable instead.
Note, the Valeo alternator only puts out around 14 amps at idle (less than 10% of what it will put out total when the motor is rev'd to red line), and with the A/C on and sitting a stop light, the car is pulling down more amps than the alternator is putting out.

If the existing cable has already been cut short as you stated, then there's no reliable way to splice an extension. Best to replace the entire cable (see attached schematic for mounting points). The guys at Cultrag (Forum vendor) can probably get you a replacement cable at a reasonable price.

Dave, thanks for this schematic. Very helpful.
Where is it from? The Factory Service Manual? Chilton's?
I looked it up on one of the popular GM Parts supplier and it appears to be a positive and negative cable Assy, Part # GM 15832652 Amazon has it for $118.00 it was shown for $172.00 elsewhere.
Following... As I have noticed that my neg clamp will not tighten to the pole. I replaced the battery (due to age) and was hoping the post had just wore down, but that's not the case. The clamp simply won't tighten down anymore.

Do you have the conical nut on it? Sometimes people lose it and replace with a regular one and it does not clamp down correctly.
I cut my factory ones off when I replaced my cable and put a much better more secure aftermarket one on.
