Default Just picked up an 07 coupe. have a question about horsepower

Hey guys I'm a new member here, so hello to all. My name is Corey, I just bought an 07 vette hardtop,6 speed. I love the car its gorgeous, would be the 4th vette Ive had. I had a 93 vert, a 2004, and an 03 Z06 50th anniversary. This car has a 436hp badge on the front fenders right where my Z06 said 405hp, but from what I came up with through research the LS2 only produces 400hp? It does have the npp factory option, but Ive built my fair share of engines/cars and have never once gained 36 horsepower from exhaust only. Why is this car sporting a 436hp badge? I guess someone could have taken the 436 badge from an ls3 car and put it on there, but I dont know why someone would do that. Anyone who could fill me in would be a great help, Thanks.

Welcome. Are you sure there were not any other mode done by the previous owner? if not, as we all know, there are a lot of 'posers' out there & maybe the previous owner 'exaggerated' how much hp the exhaust added... lol. Post some pictures when you get a chance

If it's stock it's around 412-415hp stock. LS2's are underrated.

If modded, who knows where it sits, but hp power badges mean little in the modding world.

Maybe you got an '07 with an LS3 transplant and don't know it.

Welcome and have fun.

It appears to have some sort of aftermarket cai,I didnt get close enough to see if it was branded. But even still the dual mode exhaust and a cai wouldnt be worthy of 36hp I wouldnt think? I actually havent even picked the car up yet,Im picking it up tomorrow morning(so that means no sleep for me tonight). I went and looked at it and after looking at it for about 45 minutes and taking it for a test drive,I handed him 2g's to hold the car until my bank got me a check. It is extremely clean, not a mark on the car. It has 15k miles on it. Black on black with 19 inch aftermarket wheels,2 owners.Im sure their will be plenty of pictures tomorrow,Im very happy with it. Ill ask him if he or the previous owner knows anything about the badges. Thankyou for the quick reply!

That I'm aware of, none of the C6's, save for the Z06, ZR1, and Grand Sport, came with fender badges. I should think that it is an aftermarket badge of some sort. Why the previous owner would put that on the car is anyone's guess. Do the fuel rail covers still say LS2?

Oh wow I did not know that,I thought that was an all C6 option. Thankyou for the clarification! seems like a lot of work to install that exhaust sytem with the remote transponder and all the electrical...why wouldnt you just do an aftermarket catback?lol

Yes they still say LS2, Its weird the 436 badge on the car appears to be the same font as the badge that was on my Z06 that said 405 which makes me think its aftermarket and some company copied it. Do the LS3 equipped models have a 436 badge on the fenders? I'll post a pic of the badges after I pick up the car tomorrow.

The badge is after-market regardless of the year. On LS3's at least, the NPP is said to add 6 HP. If its a true CAI, it may add 10 hp when cruising. If its just a glorified air filter, not so much.

Last owner just bought those badges aftermarket and stuck them on there. No C6 had that badge and your car does not have 436hp unless aftermarket mods put it there. A previous poster is correct that LS2's regularly show over 410hp. It was rumored that GM did not want to market the new base 2005 C6 as having more HP that the 2004 Z06 so they dropped the rating to 400hp. The badges are aftermarket and more than likely do not reflect what is pushing your car. If you like them, leave them on there. If not, a little fishing line will pull them right off.

They're definitely knockoff badges, they're all over the internet.

http://www.topflightrepro.com/corvette-emblems.shtml

The LS3 w/NPP is rated at 436 factory, previous owner was either a fake badge enthusiast, or just didn't have a clue. Be on the lookout for any other dishonest moves. Especially make sure that the title is clean, in some states it's actually hard to tell the difference between a clean title and a rebuilt title, you have to read every little box very carefully.

I think I will take them off. Im not a fan of non factory things like that especially if it falsely advertises the hp. The seller has been very honest with me,he gave me a carfax on the car without me even asking and when I went to look at it he wasnt hiding anything, looked me in the eye when we spoke,so I think it was just the previous owner trying to make the car flashy with the emblems. I knew 436 didnt sound right.

Yup all of the previous posts are correct. Its an aftermarket badge, I have an 07(with Z51) and they don't have the badges on the fender.

How does it compare to your previous Z06 in the power department?

If it's not a Z06, it's not a hardtop.
