Did you leave the FOB in there?

When you got out of the car, you didn't by chance leave the door open, and then get back into the car and close the door, did you?

Mine does that once in a while when I get out of the car faster than my wife. Does not do it all the time but it does happen. I just assume it is because of the fob in her purse.

If you linger too close to the door after you get out and shut the door, the car "thinks" you left the fob in the car.

Either move the fob away from the car a little sooner or turn off the "fob left in the car" alarm with the OPTIONS button.

It does it when I pump gas, I'm out of the car for between 5 to 10 minutes. It ALWAYS happens when I'm out of the car for a short period of time even when I'm far away from the car and come back. The horn does honk once when the alarm arms itself. I always have the fob in my pocket.

The honking 3 times is the warning that you've left a fob in the car. As stated above, many C6 forum members have had that to happen when the fob stayed too close to the driver's door for an extra few seconds after the fob was outside the car, like when pumping gas. Move on away from the car door, wait about 5-10 seconds, then go back to the gas door.

Move the fob away from the driver's door a little faster or turn off the fob left in the car warning via the options button on the right side of the dash.

I will set the lock button on the door, step out and shut the door, and about 1/10th of the time the horn will honk 3 times. I reply with a gunshot into the motor, hand signals of course.

FOB Reminder : This option sounds the horn three
times when the driver's door is closed and there is a
keyless access transmitter inside the interior of the
vehicle. This will only occur when the vehicle is off.
Press the OPTION button until FOB REMINDER
appears on the display, then press the RESET button to
scroll through the following modes:
. YES
. NO (default)
If you choose YES, the horn will sound three times
when a keyless access transmitter is inside of the
vehicle while the ignition is turned off and the driver's
door is closed.
If you choose NO, this option will turn off.
When the mode you want is selected, press the
OPTION button to set your choice and advance to the
next personal option.
Passive Door Locking : This option allows you to
select whether the doors automatically lock during
normal vehicle exit. When the ignition is turned off and
all doors become closed, the vehicle will determine how
many keyless access transmitters remain in the vehicle
interior. If at least one keyless access transmitter has
been removed from the interior of the vehicle, the doors
will lock after a short delay.
For example, if there are two keyless access
transmitters in the vehicle and one is removed, the
other will be locked in. The keyless access transmitter
locked in the vehicle can still be used to start the
vehicle or unlock the doors, if needed. A person
approaching the outside of the locked vehicle without
an authorized keyless access transmitter, however, will
not be able to open the door, even with a transmitter in
the vehicle.
You may temporarily disable the passive door locking
feature by pressing the door unlock switch for
three seconds on an open door. Passive door locking
will then remain disabled until a door lock switch is
pressed or until the power mode transitions from the
off power mode.
Press the OPTION button until PASSIVE DOOR
LOCKING appears on the display, then press the
RESET button to scroll through the following modes:
. OFF (default)
. SILENT
. HORN
If you choose OFF, this option will turn off.
If you choose SILENT, the doors will automatically
lock a short time after you remove a keyless access
transmitter from the interior of the vehicle and close
both doors.
4-

If you choose HORN, the doors will automatically lock
and the horn will sound a short time after you remove a
keyless access transmitter from the interior of the
vehicle and close both doors.
If you are parking in a quiet area and do not want the
horn to sound when the doors lock, press the lock
button on the keyless access transmitter immediately
after removing it from the interior and closing the doors.
This will lock the doors and cancel the passive locking
for this ignition cycle.
When the mode you want is selected, press the
OPTION button to set your choice and advance to the
next personal option.

OK. I had just parallel parked my Vette Saturday afternoon on a main street in town, shut down the engine and opened the door to exit. As soon as the door opened, that chime that sounds when you haven't hooked up your seat belt began sounding. I got back into the car and tried to figure out what had just happened. The gear selector was in Park and the hand brake was on, so I pressed the off button again and tried to exit. The gong sounded again. Closed the door again and pressed the off button again and the door finally opened without sound effects. Wazzit?

The gas station scenario is common.

When you exit the car after turning the motor off, the exit process is not complete until the door has been opened and closed.

At that point the car uses the glove box antenna to search for a fob left in the car. If it finds one, you get the alert.

At the gas pump if you just leave the door open while you fill up, you will trigger the alert when you get back in to leave. The car "thinks" the door now being closed, is the result of you exiting.

Use the DIC to turn all of these noises off if you want.

Appears that you may have put the car into Accessory Mode instead of actually turning it off.
