Default Throttle body

What make the difference between ported throttle bodies other then the name. I am thinking about changing mine out to pick up a few horsepower. I am not a mechanic but it looks like something easy and a good first step in moding to get a little more horsepower for a reasonably small amount of money.

Any cautions, warnings, suggestions and/or brand preferences would be appreciated.

Ported TB is simply the opening is machined larger to flow more air.

Did mine about a month ago and haven't really noticed a seat of the pants difference. I was really hoping for the supposed 1-1.5 mpg increase ppl supposedly see. The few reviews I've seen though show it should be good for 10-15hp on the Dyno. I think feeling a 2-3% increase in power no matter the source is really tough no matter the car or mod in question. I think so many people especially the ones who buy the expensive but yet incremental mods want to feel a difference so bad they end up manifesting one in their head. This justifies the expense in their mind and reinforces their decision tree process as being valid. I frequently saw this in other forums where someone buying a $400 3" piece of almost straight 2' exhaust pipe provided enormous performance improvements over the guys who bought the eBay Chinese knockoff for $50. I would often agree the $400 one probably made of T304 steel vs the cheap one being T409 and it likely to last longer in harsher environments. Performance wise though not likely so see any real difference. In fact any real dyno difference noticed is probably weather and humidity differences more than anything.

So far with my modest mods with this car the best SOTP result has been from the Vitesse Throttle Controller.

A ported TB won't increase HP much, so don't expect to feel the difference. At a $/HP cost, there are several other things that are higher on a priority list.

Ported throttle blocks, in and of themselves, offer only a slight performance increase, in my opinion....however when couple with a good CAI and a performance exhaust system (Corsa Sport for me,) the combined effect of all three components, working together, provides a moderate, but rather noticeable performance gain - not to mention some "very sweet" sounds, to boot !!
