Default Noob question....

First off, Sorry for such a naive question but I've never used them in fear of doing something wrong.

Can somebody post a small write-up on how to properly use the top shifters? Yes, I know this sounds like a silly (obvious) question but I just don't want to do anything wrong or improperly so figured I'd ask first to ensure I dont screw anything up

I'm guessing you mean the paddle shifters? The tabs with the plus signs? Do you know how to drive a manual transmission, because it's my understanding that the paddle shifters allow you to mimic a manual, and accelerate very fast.

But I'm just guessing, because I seem to go very fast without using them.

This may help. Straight from the owners manual. I have paddle shifters also. Fun to drive with paddle shift mode. You cant screw up the paddle shift system wont allow you to mess up as the manual shows below if you are above or below certain speeds ...

I se you have a 200, so for you ro use the paddles, you need to have the car in Sport mode (S). Now you can drive it in that mode and never activate the paddles and it will hold your shift points a little longer if you are accelerating hard. If you want to use the paddles, to downshift you simply use the paddles located behind the steering wheel spooks and to upshift press on the little buttons on top of the steering wheel spooks with the Plus sign on them.
You will not hurt the car, because if you are going to fast and try an downshift it will not let you. Also if you are not going fact enough you cannot upshift to the nest gear.
GM really did not think this out when they designed this system. Real paddle shifters are set with the left paddle as the down shift and the right paddle for the up shift. GM correct this with the C7. I have correct it myself with the wiring mode and a set of after market paddles. A good tune that addresses the A6 shift points helps also.

btw, the paddles will work better once you get your car tuned, if you ever want to do that...

Reading the owners manual is something most people should do but don't. That said I hardly use the paddles. Just keep it in sport mode.
