Let's face it - you can't even use the full potential of the GS on the road, much less the Z06. I wanted another convertible so my choice was made for me; my 12 Centennial Edition GS is the third Vette I've owned and it's staying in my garage for quite a while.
As far as it being slow like jdk541 indicated, I felt the same way but it's just because of the crappy non-linear throttle programming that GM put on the Vette. I bought a Vitesse throttle controller, tweaked my timing tables and tranny tune slightly, and eliminated most of the torque management and it's a whole different animal now.
Buy the GS and save some money. If you decide you want a faster car down the road you can add a supercharger, still be in the car for less than what it would have cost you for a Z06, and be as fast or faster than a Z06.
Great advice. I am an old Hot Rodder so a little tweaking with some tuning sounds good. Now for trying to find my car!
If I had to choose a C6 again, it'd be a grand sport if I didn't plan to take it to the track. It'd be a fun weekend/daily driver.
If I KNEW I was going to track/road race it....would still get a grand sport lol. Only reason I'd get a Z06 or ZR1 would be for drag racing because it has upgraded cooling/suspension/brakes and so forth. I don't feel any of those upgrades are necessary to have fun in a Vette and love it.

I've only had my '10 GS 6-speed about a month, but couldn't be happier. Originally I was set on a ZL1 Camaro, when a deal fell thru on one I had my eye on I started looking at other options. Ended up getting a call about this convertible a week or so later. Found out I know the original owner, who happens to be a Sheriff. 1 owner with 10,011 rain/snow free miles. It was kind of a no brainer. He had traded it back into the dealer he had bought it from in 2010. Knew going in it wasn't going to be a daily driver, just a pleasure vehicle. So having a ragtop was just to much to look past. The 436hp is more than satisfying, although a supercharger is in order next summer. You can never have enough power.
