Iv'e been reading about some plans on a mid engine corvette around 2019. it seems to me a corvette with a mid engine just wouldn't seem like a true corvette. after all these years. not to mention the cost would knock out a large group of vette lovers... can't say i like the idea.....
I think we will probably see a mid engine Corvette because a mid engine vehicle can put more power to the ground because of its greater rear weight balance. One of the big sacrifices of a mid engined vehicle is limited cargo space. A front engined Corvette actually makes a pretty good trip car for two people, most mid engined cars aren't so hot for a long road trip.

Power and engineering aside, it would lose the long front and short rear esthetics that make the Corvette's look and silhouette iconic.

Not to say it won't happen, but I hope not.
I think it will happen. GM will put the crossed flags on it. But, I have been driving Vettes for forty nine years and no way I'll be buying a roided out Fiero.
My personal opinion, based on nothing, is GM will introduce a mid-engine vette as an upscale Corvette while continuing the front engine/rear drive platform.
Just sayin...
Just from what I've read on the web.
It's coming just a matter of time. I believe it's a bad idea. Pop up head lights is one thing
med engine is totally different animal.
I wouldn't get so excited about it. They had mid-engine concepts for a while. Sources from GM said if GM didn't make an announcement then it isn't happening. I think back around 2012 or 2013 when GM announced the C7's and someone on the internet said they would be releasing a C7 ZR1 with twin turbo capable of 750hp. Well I haven't seen it yet? What I'm saying it's all speculation until GM makes a press release. If GM didn't make an announcement then it ain't happening.
Evolution in products isn't such a bad thing. I'll wait to see it before I pass judgement. I'm always up for a fresh new look as long as some attributes remain that keep the car a part of the family.
I couldn't afford the C7 and I'm really sure I won't be able to afford the C8. So that being said I like the C7 but not enough to even think about buying one. The C8 will be the same. Cool to look at but nope. I'm still really fond of the C6 I do have. Still the best bang for the buck. No question IMHO.

The big advantage of a mid engine car is better handling because of more equal weight distribution front to rear. You do NOT want more weight on the rear because that will just result in oversteer. You want equal weight. When the C5 moved the transmission to the rear the weight distribution of 50/50 was achieved. The C6 and C7 have maintained that 50/50 distribution so mid engine has no advantage unless you just want to get the transmission and engine back together by moving the driver and passenger forward. Mid engine is a 50's idea that has been tried and failed in passenger cars. See Pontiac Fiero.
I bought a Fiero new back in 1985 or 86. Good idea not a bad looking car for it's day. But like everything the auto makers where building back then it was crap. GM can do it today quality has changed. But at what cost.
Mid Engine would be base i'm just guessing start out at 80 grand. That takes a lot of your customer base out of the game. It would be neat to see.
Could even drive up the value of our c6's.

Sure, some have failed.
See Corvair, Delorean, etc.
But, Porsche, NSX, GT40, Audi R8, Ferrari, etc...rear mid-engine cars.
Or, Nissan 370, Miata, etc...front mid-engine cars.
Just sayin...
Magazines are always going to be writing this as long as they can sell magazines to you the consumer to get your interest up. Like I said earlier that a few years ago when GM announced the C7's and the magazines were talking already about the C7 ZR1's with twin turbos 750 hp. I remembered a lot of the hype for about a year on that. They had the Corvettes guys believing it. Then I ran into a GM rep and asked him he said don't believe everything you read unless GM makes an announcement that's when it is for real.

........it will only be part of the Corvette family of cars.....along with a station wagon Vette........
Hey, the Porsche guys survived the water cooled and mid-engine models and Ford guys survived the Pantera. Aint us bow tie guys just as tough? If Chevy turns the Vette into a mid-engine competitor with the high end super cars (which are mostly mid-engine) then you can bet the price is going way up.
