Sounds to me like the door latch motor. Can you use the emergency levers or the pull cable in the trunk and get them to open?

Yes. Emergency handle works.

How would I access this motor? Or is it just a solenoid to release the latch?

I used one of the advisory threads (sticky's) to get mine figured out.
Order a new one, they are not hard to replace but getting the panel that covers it off is kind of "special" I ended up breaking 2 of the tabs that I wasn't aware of. Ordered a new $70.00 panel but this one isn't rattling or making noise so I have a backup when it starts.
You tube videos are also very helpful, I also looked at them.

My guess is it's the door module. Had an 05 that did the same thing. GM replaced the door module under warranty even though the warranty was long expired. I would contact GM customer service and see what they say. Can't hurt. The door module is about $250 plus labor.

Those are the LATCH symptoms for sure...
The video in C6topless' post is pretty good. Use care in removing the rear panel. This thread should help:

Just repaired mine (had identical symptoms).
Got a used latch for $115. New ones run about $190 from some of the discount vendors.
We'll see if buying used was the right choice. Good news is, after fixing it the first time, future R&R's will be quite easy indeed.

Ordered the part for $183, got it in, installed it and did not break anything. Thanks to everybody for their input.
