Anyone see a problem doing this?
It's hot in Arizona. going to be a 118* in a couple of days. When I return from driving, I open the hood to let the engine cool down faster. I figure this should keep the hood liner and rubber things from baking for a few hours. Car is in a garage.
What do you think?

This car doesn't get nearly as hot as my CTS-V. After a drive you could feel the heat radiating off the car from 10ft away. Gotta love AZ! It's all the same after 110. Gonna live in the pool this weekend! Corvettes and Coffee is early on Saturday though.

Doesn't hurt anything but it probably really doesn't help either.

I live in Florida and although it is hot here, not that hot, but I do that a lot to cool it off, especially if I plan to hit it with a quick detail spray job to get the dirt off it.

Thats interesting. With high heat being one of the biggest factors of how long some parts....rubber...plastic..etc...may last, seems only logical that the faster it cools down the better off it would be. But then again...this is Corvette forum where all logic seems to be "Illogical".....LOLOL.

I use to do that with my Cobra. That thing was so hot that I would always park in the driveway, open the hood & let it cool off for about half an hour. If not the whole garage would feel like an oven & stink of fuel, oil & exhaust.

My fan controller runs the fan for a few minutes after engine shutdown, specifically because there is a big heat buildup then.
Opening the hood is a good idea as long as you don't activate the sprinkler system if you have one.
"Anyone see a problem doing this?" Probably wear out your hood struts.

I do it every time I park it in the garage after a drive. Nothing wrong at all.

This makes sense. When the car is moving, air is moving through the engine compartment and it keeps the temps down. When you come back after a hard and heavy weekend drive and stop the engine, it heat soaks and temps in the engine compartment climb. I do this too, lift the hood up, leave it open for 10, 15 minutes (while i give it a quick clean up) before putting the cover on.

Ha, so funny. I do exactly the same thing! With my Jaguars too, one of which is an R. I've been popping the hood on my vette for a week now even though temps haven't been that high yet. On the 118 deg day though, cars will be garaged and I will be in the pool.

I do it. With the fans I have in the garage and the hood open the garage cools down faster and I spend a lot of time in my garage. So, I come home from a trip/drive and do my little routine and all is well. As for helping the car? Maybe, maybe not.
