Default Why?

Why does my Corvette honk at me when I exit and close the door? I have the fob in my pocket and the other fob is nowhere near the car.
I've been through the owner's manual and can't seem to find it.

Thanks

Your car is just being emotional. It wants to be driven!

You're a bit to close to the car when you close the door. Maybe try putting the fob in your left pocket.
Or, turn autolock off.

You can turn off FOB reminder and leave auto lock on if you want too.

Oh, and you might check if you have passive door locking set to HORN. In this case it's working correctly and you can set it to SILENT.

If it's just honking one time, it's an option set for use with auto-locking.

2008 Owner's Manual. Pages 3-77 and 3-78:

Press the OPTION button until PASSIVE DOOR
LOCKING appears on the display, then press the
RESET button to scroll through the following modes:
• OFF (default)
• SILENT
• HORN

If you choose OFF, this option will turn off.

If you choose SILENT, the doors will automatically lock
eight seconds after you turn the ignition off, remove
a keyless access transmitter from the interior of
the vehicle, and close both doors.

If you choose HORN, the doors will automatically lock
and the horn will chirp eight seconds after you turn
the ignition off, remove a keyless access transmitter
from the interior of the vehicle, and close both doors.

I like the confirmation honk after I walk away so I know the car locks itself.

It's when it honks 3 times that you need to worry.

You probably have it set to honk when the doors lock.

Yep!! You can set it so that the lights just flash. I always figured that the horn honking thing was a way to tell everyone nearby, " Hey!! I'm here!! And I have a Corvette!!"

So I just have mine set for the lights to flash.

It means the car is sensing the fob is still in the car or too close to the car after you exit.

Well at least it sounds like you are wanting to disable it and don't want to be one of those people that have to hear their horn bark at them when ever they lock it while they are walking away. Whats up with that anyway ?? Haven't we evolved beyond wanting that type of notariaty (sp) ?......

I can see where you're coming from. But don't a lot of cars do this anyway if you double tap the lock button on the key fob? My altima does it and i've seen/heard other brand cars and trucks do it as well.
