Touche !!....but no cigar. Black wheels have been around long before the fifties and/or chrome. But the black wheels were so darn boring that they would put hub caps on them so as to cover them up. Thats why black wheels are still a bust today....they still look like boring.....well...black wheels without hub caps !!.....
Absolutely...back in the day my '50 chebby with twice pipes had black wheels. Until I could afford chrome...

What's the perfect wheel diameter for a C6?

I think you may be spot on with that analogy. After all, it seems that all it takes is for some movie star or sports star to have something on their ride and then all the easily impressionable people want them. I dunno...maybe people think that if they get the same wheels that Aron Rodgers has that they will then be able to throw a football like him.....

How about the often incorrect term of "Upgrade" -- when in fact most smart guys know you just downgraded your Nice Corvette when you Mod it.
Heaven forbid someone "upgrade" to a transparent top instead of keeping the delaminating painted one. Or "upgrade" the harmonic balancer because someone doesn't like the Nice Corvette chirping stocker...
