Default Need help identify an engine noise.

Need help figure out what this noise is. Third time I've started the car. Frist two times the noise wasn't there. Only ran for 30sec each time. Noise is there right from startup now. Sounds like metal on metal. Can't really pinpoint where it is coming from. Best guess is towards the back of the motor in the middle. No engine codes and smooth idle.

Any ideas would be appreciated,
Thanks, JR

Sounds like it might be your harmonic balancer. Mine used to make the same belt noise. Check to see if the HB wobbles.

I would at least remove the drive belts as a test only to eliminate that possibility of a HB or belt noise. But I think you have a faulty roller lifter. If you pull the valve covers off and start the engine, and the volume of the noise increases, that would narrow it down to the lifter issue.
What's the full history of your car, mods, mileage so on.

Bought the car from auction to turn into a track car. After diving into it more, seem like a 08 c6 with an iron block(which I just noticed)/ ls1 853 heads 853 an a ls3 intake. But since the ls3 intake is it's attached to ls1 head it might be a newer truck intake.

Ran the s/numbers on the Computer, is for a 08 vette

Was thinking bad lifter myself.
Going to try the belts right now.
