Default Headlight laminate flaking/chipping off...

Howdy all! Long-time lurker, first-time poster here!

I have a 2012 C6 with what seems like laminate flaking off of both headlights. It was initially only a nasty pinky-sized area on the passenger side light, but now it's starting the magic on the driver's side.

I've done a good bit of research on the matter and it seems that there's some sort of protective "clear coat" on these lenses? Any recommendations as to what I can do to keep this flaking from getting worse? When I brought it up to the dealership, they recommended having their 'headlight restoration guy' do the sanding/buffing thing - which I don't agree with. Any suggestions? I *do* live probably 10 miles east of RLSebring! But, I was hoping to go a less drastic (and cheaper) route for now.

Thanks for any and all help! Pics below:

It looks like you need new headlight covers. Being you live 10 miles away from RLSebring, I would certainly go there. Good luck. I would also try buffing the headlight first

Heres what they will look like once all the flaking is done. Buffing wont do a thing. u will need to wet sand. It is a lot of work but you can get it back clear. But honestly you will be better off replacing the lens

Good pic above. You can surely do it yourself if you want to expend the time and have the knowledge. But being where you are?--I'd give a call and go up to RL. Just/almost too easy for you.

Even if you take the time to sand your lenses clear, you would need to clear coat them, and who knows how long they would last.
IMO, If you want to do it right, buy new lenses from RL

Anyone who can sand the lens, then clear coat it, and have it come out looking like new, I commend you! I tried it on my 08, and the lens look ok from 10' away, but any closer and they don't look good at all. I'm sorry I wasted my time. I should have ordered new lens from Robert Sebring then. At some point that is exactly what I hope to do, if he still has them, or can still get them.

Got mine replaced under my warranty. I'm glad my wife noticed it early.
They also covered the clear coat going on my wheels!
