I've had my CTEK MUS 4.3 since 4-11-16, connected to a 2013 Corvette Grand Sport and set to "Normal Battery Program". A problem has come up during the last 2 weeks. This is that the charger now seems to work normally for a day or two, showing 7 of the 8 lights including #7 which is green. Then when I come out the 2nd or 3rd morning after starting the charger, I see that there is a red error light and the #5 is lit, which according to the manual means that the battery is not accepting a charge. The battery is less than 6 months old and should be performing perfectly. Do I actually have a battery problem or is there a problem with the 4.3?
Could you hook it up to another car and see if you get the same issue?
Double check the battery connections to make sure they are not loose.
Honestly it could be either one, I've seen (rarely) batteries fail within 6 months. (broken post connection internally) defective from factory and vibration killed it.
Also electronic things could also fail early on with a bad part. I don't know how long CTEK warranties their products.
If you read CF for any length of time, there have been many posts about bad NEW batteries within weeks/months of purchase. It happens. So far, not to me but it could. Get the battery checked out for free at the various auto parts chains---they'll do a load test to see if a cell is bad.
If it's not the batt., or the connections, I'd call Ctek and start asking questions of them.
I found a local Corvette owner who had a Corvette 3300 battery tender, which I think is a repackaged CTEK 3300. I borrowed his tender and left it connected to my car for 3 days - it worked perfectly.
Occasionally we get power spikes in this neighborhood, especially this time of the year. My guess is that a spike probably got into the 4.3, although I'm not sure as I think it would be totally dead if this happened. Anyway, I purchased a surge protector from Lowe's and have ordered a new MUS 4.3.
Good to know! Thanks for posting. Just for your info, you made a good decision with mus4.3 especially if you get power failures often like we do in FL, ctek 3300 goes to standby and does not resume the previous state of charging but 4.3 does. That is why i upgraded, coming home after 3 weeks thinking that i am good and finding the battery dead was not fun.
