I recently purchase a 08 LT3 Z51 out of Florida and had it shipped to NJ. The car was stock until I added a Borla exhaust about a week ago. Now the check engine light is on. Is there an easy way to check the code or do you think the exhaust triggered it? Thanks for you help. Feels good to be back in a Vette after 10 years.
Look through your owners manual and find the section about how to pull codes in the DIC - - it shouldn't throw a code with just a cat-back system so I'm thinking you have something else going on. No sense in guessing . . .
Go to any auto parts store....Auto Zone, Pep Boys, etc.....they will read the codes for free. Without knowing the codes you're just guessing at the cause.

exactly. Hit up Autozone & they have an OBDII reader. Get the code it's throwing & then we'll know for sure what it is.
First disconnect battery cable and reconnect. Drive 20-30 miles and see if CEL comes on. If it doesn't you're good. If it comes back on, you may have s problem. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a loose gas cap that caused the CEL.

All just guessing w/o a code, but I'm going to guess that if you've driven for a week with the new exhaust setup, the CEL is coincidental. Might or might not be related.
I encourage everyone to get a code reader, at least to pick up powertrain codes P codes. They're so reasonably priced. I have at least a dozen scan tools and a Tech II I've purchased over the last 15 years. I only use the Tech II now.
One of the nicer Scanners for CAN I have is the Actron CP9575. It will read P codes, capture live data, etc. It is programmable and upgradeable. Little over $100 if I recall.

the cat back exhaust will not set a code.you have something else going on
Went to autozone. They checked it for free and it was just the gas cap. Checked it and tightened it. Two blocks later the light was off. Thanks for the help. So glad to be in a C6.
