Default Corvette Disappointment

I have a beautiful 2006 Corvette with only 60K miles and I am very disappointed in the quality of this car!!! I did not buy a new one because it is essentially a weekend car/toy for me. However, if you are still reading this, I want to thank everyone for their input on this site, because you have saved me tons of money and aggrevation on many little issues with this car. I have always drove imports and was looking at a Ford Mustand or a 370z before I purchased this car. I am thrilled that I waited and chose the corvette, but please, someone tell me, is this going to be a reliable car to take on road trips or just a money pit!!! I could name all of the things I have had problems with, but I won't put you through that.

Thanks in advance for any input on this topic!

I'm sorry to hear this. I've noticed a lot of owners do have a lot of issues with their cars and others just drive them forever. Of what I have noticed that a lot of the issues are little things that are very aggravating. Some are real big issues. As a first time Corvette owner, I too was very surprised of some of the many issues that their Vettes had. More surprisingly thart the Vette is "The Flagship of Chevrolet" or even GM, But yet there have been a series of recalls and issues with the vehicles.
Knock on wood, on my 2007 Base Coupe, it's been a dream car to drive and owned. I bought mine back in March and it was supposed to be a weekend car which has become a daily driver. I put 120+ miles a day just going back and forth from work and it has been a great toy.
If you are not happy with it, I can see that it will be a hardship to have something that is not enjoyable to drive and to have. I hope everything will work out in your favor.

Thanks for the insites!! Don't get me wrong, I very much like driving the car and happy to have it, just not happy with the quality! I would hate to go buy one for 70K and have all of these issues after 60K.

Sorry that you're having problems with your C6. I have had mine since Sept. 2009 and have about 19,000 miles on it. So far I haven't had to do anything other than regular maintenance. I think most people on the forum will tell you that the C6 is a very reliable car. These LS engines will run forever if the proper maintenance is done.

Sure their are some that have a problem now and then but I think that is more the exception than the rule.

Had my 2011 GS for almost 2 years now and although I haven't driven it a lot since it is a weekender I haven't had any problems
But it is troublesome reading these forums and the related troubles members have, but then I realize that bad news travels fast and much more often.
Hope yours turns out to be a good one

In my own personal experience, most cars seem to develop issues after 50,000 miles. My car has been pretty good overall (38K miles), but it's not an inexpensive vehicle to maintain. I picked up my car from the dealership service department, and there were three C6's in the front row by the cashier. We're not alone.

In another topic somewhere on this forum, someone commented that Corvettes are not known for their reliability. I guess if you want reliable, you get a Honda. But think of the joy rides you miss.

Very true ENESEF.

Most come to a site like this with problems. How often, in contrast, does someone post about the trouble free experience they're having? Only once in a great while. Same with all cars. Try the BMW chat site sometime. You'd think you were on Russian car site.

Personally, I like a twitchy car. I'd rather work on them, solve problems than drive them.

I'm still driving my 5th C6. Very few problems with any of them.

Had a slight rattling problem with one side of the targa top on my 05 Coupe.

GM did replace the targa top on my 2006 coupe, even though it was not delaminating.

GM did do the fuse box install of a wire on my 2012 coupe to prevent the headlights from going out, which never happened on my car.

I put a total of about 75,000 miles on those 5 C6s. Still driving the 2012 coupe.

Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble with yours.

Specifics please . . no whining . . .was the car inspected before you bought it and the service records pulled? What- exactly- has been the problem? At this point, it's a ten year old car that's been around the globe twice - - -Sorry you're having problems, but we can't help without more info.

Good luck-

Golly, I have had my 05 since 05 and although has not been problem free........I still love the car! I had clear top replaced years ago as lamination was starting to peel, Had a drivers door window switch go out and replaced, Harmonic Balancer was replaced the fuel system sending unit needs replacing but costs so much I just keep an eye on the mileage! lol maybe someday I'll have fixed but that's it!! The car enjoys great preventive care as well weekly (or more) baths and regular wax and detailing all by me! It is a daily driver except in winter when it stays in the garage on the somewhat rare occasion of snow but its been a great car! I have over 131K on it and still looks like new!

Almost forgot I just replaced the clear top again with one purchased this week from a forum member. Getting spider cracks in it and was bugging me!

I agree with you, I bought mine with 4000 miles and thank God I got it at a good price! I did the valve issue fix, EBCM,brake caliper bolt coming out and caliper dropping on wheel while going down the highway and of course the 2008 leather dash bubbling. No issues since the repairs and I love the car again. I think mine was built on a Friday...

The vette is reliable. It's my first american sports car. I've had everything from a v12 twin turbo mercedes, jaguar xjl, range rovers, etc and they were all the same...all reliable if taken care of. Drive them all 1200+ miles one way on trips and never had an issue with any of them besides regular maintenance for the most part.

But I have considered that many garage finds get that way because something expensive broke.

Not whining, just venting! Like I said, you guys have already helped me a ton with this site. Yes, car checked out fine, records good, no wrecks. Here are just a few things I can remember.

1. Harmonic balancer went bad $1,500
2. Shifter replacement/rattle $200 fixed myself, thanks to the site.
3. Buzzing noise in dash/ambient sensor fan beside ignition. I fixed it, thanks to the site.
4. Console cheap latch tab broke/have not fixed yet.
5. Something scratching side windows, the tint, not the actual window
6. Door touch pads did not work all the time/fixed thanks to the site. Saved me $500, did I say thanks?
7. Hatch button on inside not working all the time.

Very surprised to see this. When I originally set out to look for my car-everything out there I read about the c6 considered them to be very reliable cars overall.

The previous owner of my car kept detailed service records and the only things that they had to service were routine things-it's on tire set #2 and has had transmission fluid, hyd clutch fluid and rear diff service done and the battery replaced. Granted, the car only has 22k on the clock- (I've already put 2k of those 22) but IMO miles don't mean everything. Good luck!

Edit: you've answered what I was asking in the above post-apologies!

Yes, that is an issue as well, but I can live with that for now.
