Default Would it be possible to test drive a Corvette at a dealership without buying it yet

I'm saving up for a c6 coupe 2005-2007. I don't have the money to afford it yet, but if I go to a dealership and say I'm interested in the Corvette would it be likely that they would let me test drive it for a little bit?. Or would you recommend it? Or would you recommend I wait till I can afford the Vette or negotiate a good deal on it?

A used one I would say yes. New would probably be determined by what you drove to the dealership.

For sure, there is no obligation in test driving a car.
I do it a couple of times a month on weekends just for kicks.

From the question, I'm assuming you are a very young person?

Granted, some very young people have access to large amounts of money, but it will depend on the dealership as to whether they think you are just some kid dreaming/wasting time, or if you appear to be a serious buyer.

It depends on the dealership and their policies. Also, some dealerships won't let you test drive a performance vehicle on the freeway (silly, I know, but there it is).

First and foremost....if it's a 2005-2007, it shouldn't be a huge issue getting a test drive.

If you're younger or show up dressed like you're going to the pool, you'll likely be taking a dealer with you for the ride.

If it's a new C7, it would be a very hard sell. Given, you'd better be rolling up in something besides a 15 year old Civic if you're hoping for a test drive without signing first.

Some Dealers make sure you can qualify for the loan, or can afford it first.

I wouldn't even make an offer on a car I didn't test drive.

Why would someone do that?

I thought they were able to do that when they check your driver's license.

^ they'll need to run a credit bureau report for loan qualification--some states do not put SSNs on their driver's licenses

Wait until you are ready and actually have the money to purchase one. All you are doing is wasting their time.

Now if you go there and tell them upfront you are saving to buy a corvette which is on top of your list but would like to actually drive one first to make sure it is the car for you, maybe, just maybe they will let you test one out. Just be truthful.

The dealer in my neighborhood that I always bring my car to for service (I didn't buy it there though) just threw me the keys to a brand new C7 Z51 about 6 months after they came out. It must have been their test drive car because they didn't even blink when I jokingly asked to drive it. BTW it didn't impress me, I still like my '13 GS better. So yea, I guess you can get a test drive.

As was mentioned go to a dealer dressed well and also I recommend going to a dealer with lots of Corvettes. If the dealer only has one I doubt he will let you drive it without some serious interest expressed. If he has a dozen new and used vettes I am sure they will find one you can drive. Back in 08 I drove my first C6 almost a year before I purchased one.

Before I bought my GS a year and a half ago, I went to a dealer in Jersey and test drove a 2013 GS and took it out on Rt.80 without the salesman saying a word. It was great because I got to go thru the gears at a speed up to 75 mph. Then I bought my 2012 CE GS with A6 tranny. So it all depends on the dealership.

^This. Integrity is arguably everything. If they don't accommodate you, no big deal. You can bring the Vette you do buy over for a "big mistake I told you so." Or, just forget about it and enjoy your car and your integrity.

Why are people acting like the dealers are going to treat any C6 like a C7? Even the C7s are getting test driven at this point.

eta: Whether any dealer lets any given customer test drive anything on the lot is a different question.

Bruh, go in dressed how ever you like. Talk to the sales person tell him your "in the market" and like the car they have and would like to test drive it. He'll make a copy of your license and will tag along. Most the time sales guys tell you to wot and go crazy thinking it'll hook you to buy the car. Once your done just say your gonna go look at newer one that's an 08 down the road. You'll be in contact.

I was in flip flops a plain T and basket ball shorts when I bought my Vette I'm in my 20s
I was also dressed similar when I purchased my last car that was 40k+

If a dealer doesn't want to help you over the way you're dressed **** them go to the next one.

I went into a dealership to look at the C7s they had in stock a few months ago and the salesman insisted that we take a new C7 out for a test drive..I didn't even mention a test drive , but I was driving my C6 when I showed up so I'm sure that had something to do with it..I declined the test drive and the salesman looked very puzzled, I really had no interest at all in a C7.....WW
