anybody know how to tell the diff between an ls2 and ls3??? I bought an 05 awhile back with a rebuilt title...finally swapped my diff out for an 07 diff...anyways while it was there I told him to change the oil/filter for me and gave him a wix filter for an ls2 and when I picked the car up he gave me the filter back and said it was the wrong one...anyways when returning the filter at the parts store he assured me that he gave me the right one and then told me that the one the shop used fits the ls3 only???? anybody know how to verify an ls2 or ls3???
IF the engine is original... open the glove box... look for RPO sticker on the left side of the box door. The engine type (e.g. LS2) should be in the batch of codes on the sticker.
I also found a pretty good article on LS engines that might be helpful if you're thinking the engine is not OEM, and trying to figure out 2 vs 3...
I don't know the visual differences when standing looking into the engine bay. Certainly, someone could have done an engine swap. Why was the title rebuilt?
However, I would verify the filter numbers...57033 is the Wix filter for LS2 and 57060 is the Wix filter for LS3.
Good luck.
They F' up. Once they were out of the M 113 for my LS2 and they gave me a wix. Found out it didn't fit after I drained the oil. Salesperson showed me the parts list.....it was wrong.
LS3 intake has a silencer box on the side where a LS2 does not. Easy way to tell them apart if they are OEM. That and the covers say LS3.
