A different spin on adding a back up camera question
Bought mt 2005 last year and noticed a phone charger (so i thought) coming out of one of the cup holders. Well while doing some other work I found a booklet for it. Turns out its an auxillary cable for an old Ipod. Think of the wide power connector on Iphone 4. I'm wanting to add a backup camera to the factory nav but have read where there's no auxillary cable to do so. Since I have such a cable does anyone know how to use that for a camera? I'm guessing that cable goes to audio and/or video? Any help on instructions or components would be great. There's tons of videos on line and here but none i've seen add this little wrinkle. thanks guys
It won't work because there is no video input on the factory nav.
ah, I must not be understanding it cortectly. I thought I saw discussions about this but they were from 2012. So the only way to add a camera is a stand alone unit? Not sure I want another monitor. The ones that go over the mirror don't look all that great unless someone has a good one they like. I just installed one on my wife's BMW with its own monitor so installation wasn't bad
There is a vendor that offers adding a module to the factory NAV so that you could use a camera. You have to send the unit to them for the upgrade, and cost ~ $300 or so.
Half the cost of a good audio head replacement that would be capable to plug in the backup camera and have nav as well.
Down side is if you have a HUD, as most do with this trim level, you lose the turn by turn instructions that would be displayed on the HUD in street mode.
