Default Door lock actuator issue.

Hey guys, well I believe the door lock actuator bit the dust in my 2006 z51. The other day out of no where the driver door just stopped opening. That being said I did some research and ordered new oem door pads for both doors since they were so cheap. I installed the pad today and of course, not fixed. The door makes plenty of noise when touching the pad, but will NOT open unless I use the emergency release handle down on the floor board. Also the door will not open if I push the button from the inside either. Ive changed the key fob battery in hopes it would fix it but it did not as well.
Just seeing who has had this issue and if spending the 150.00+ on a new actuator and cable is the fix. Thanks guys!

Have you tried lubricating the latch mechanism?

yes, didn't do anything. I believe its the electric latch mechanism that's gone bad.

Yes, it's your actuator, had the same problem on my 2010 GS. I think a dirty pad contributed to the failure by responding intermittently prior to the latch failure. I thought I might be able to fix the problem by opening up the latch but it's not designed for any service, rivets hold the body together, it was worth a try. It looks well designed and built for a longer service life but we're seeing more and more of these threads. Here's what they look like inside

Thats a couple of good pics. Just out of curiosity, what parts do you think are the ones that went bad in that unit ? Did you try any power to it after you opened it up ?...or was that possible ?

Just the latch was 190.00 from my local dealership today. It will be here Monday.
The cheapest I found online was 198.00.

I could not fine a used left side.

Same thing happened when I had my 05. Chevy Customer Service got involved and paid for mine plus installation...and the car was NOT under warranty. You might see if they will pay for yours also.

I wasn't able to power it up after removal, there was an integrated electrical connection. I think it was the motor that failed, the rest of the mechanism looked ok. When I realized it wasn't going to go back together I took the motor out and applied 12v to it, fried it instantly. I'm planning on cleaning the door switch every couple of years to hopefully prevent future failures, we'll see.

We had the same issue and it was a PITA when it acted up. Replaced the actuator and now works fine. Nice to be able to get in to, or out of, the car when you want to..

Yes, this is the typical behaviour when the actuator goes, been there done that, I had to get mine installed by a mechanic because it was beyond me to take apart the interior to access the actuator.

Most likely drilled out the rivet head.

Yes, just drilled out the rivet heads. These aren't designed to be disassembled and worked on, it was worth a shot.

could you guys help me out here, and hopefully someone sees this..

Recently my driver side door wont open from inside or out, the windows or locks do not work from the inside door panel, i can use my FOB to lock/unlock or pop my trunk just fine
when i push in the actuator latch to make the actuator think the door is closed, i can push the outside button release and it unlatches it, but when i close it and try to open it again, it doesnt work.
When i do the same thing except try from the inside door button release, it does nothing. the only thing i hear is a click from the fuse box in the passenger side. i checked the fuse and even replaced it and nothing changed. and i have no idea if its because im sitting in the driver seat, but when i try the door outside door switch from inside, it doesnt work so i get up and unlatch it from the trunk and then i do it again and stand up and push the outside door latch, it unlatches.
i switched out the outdoor release switches from passenger to driver and that didnt do anything either.
