OK I can finally reveal the details of the resolution. The issue was resolved on 4/29, took 3 months. As I mentioned I had/have another issue going on that sidetracked me from pushing this along. Initially the dealership came at me with Kelly Bluebook value and I refused that. I wouldnt have been able to buy anything equal with that. I said to the GM, "I drove in with a car and wanted another car of equal or greater value or money to buy one. I wanted to be made whole and I shouldn't have to pay anything out of pocket". I ended up finding real comp values of cars out there to present to them as was suggested on here. There were 4 in the whole country that were in the same ballpark as mine in terms of year, miles, transmission and color. The dealership was willing to buy one of these for me and absorb the cost 100%. I almost went with one of them but in the end it had some things I didnt like. So I opted for the cash. Basically they gave me what my car would cost to buy right now with tax, license, and delivery (since they were all from out of state). I actually got more than I paid for it 8 years ago. I was being told by someone if I sued I may be able to get more from future value, the assumption that the value would go up like it did in the 8 years I had it. I didnt want to go through all that and am happy with the outcome. The GM really helped once we were on the same page. I was also dealing with their insurance guy so there was a lot of back and forth. The dealership where this happened was Community Chevrolet in Burbank, CA. Any other questions let me know. Really appreciate all the help and well wishes from all of you. Now looking at using that cash on a C7 but the market is crazy right now.
Unfortunately, those cars now look like Hot Wheels or Matchbox
I bought a 1978 Camaro z28 with black paint and orange pinstripes back in 1978. Got called Hot Wheels all the time. But I loved that car with a 350 and four speed. Around 200hp if I remember correctly. But it looked good,
