The trunk button on my 2011 GS convertible is not working. I understand that they can get dirt in them and clogged up so that they don't work. Would I be better off trying to clean the button by taking it out and apart, or just buying a new switch? Car has extended warranty but the deductible is $100....
Take it out and clean it first...pretty simple to do. I would try that before I would buy a new one. I took mine out a few years back and it was full of sand. I hardly ever use the thing, i use the button under the dash...lol.

I suppose the major reason for using it is if the dash switch nor the fob button will open it. And you may not be able to get into the car to access the dash switch.

I'm not sure how it works in a coupe, but in my Vert, the dash button is de-activated when the car is locked. Also, to me, it's much easier to push the button by the license plate than dig around in a pocket to find the fob and push the trunk button there.
I haven't used the push button in several years. I either use the FOB or the button under the dash. On the other hand, I guess simply because its there, it should work. I don't think I would spend $100 on it though...lol.

Mine will always allow the trunk to be opened from the dash button, even when locked. It will sound the alarm, however.
I also use the trunk button, rather than dig the fob out when approaching the car.
