I understand that the stock intake manifold is a limiting factor in the flow department and is a highly advised addition (Fast Intake).

But using stock LS3 heads and IM would improve HP more than reworking your LS2 heads. And you could also rework those heads for more power.

Is there any need to change the push rods?

Yes, if you get a new cam or different rocker arms. Make sure you buy the best valves and guides available. There are a lot of Chinese valve train parts out there that will fail due to inferior alloys.

With a new cam, you will want new timing chain, lifters, dual springs and retainers, push rods and gasket set. I would also have the heads ported and polished with 3 angle valve job. Have your valves checked and polished (you can even machine the heads for larger valves). I would also change the intake for more flow and depending on cam bigger fuel injectors possibly. I would contact Lingenfelter for information on their cam packages.

Are you going to be doing the work or have it done? If having it done at a shop, I would get serveral quotes and just see what the shops say. I'm betting getting to 500 is going to be hard and expensive.
