Sticker Shock !!!!!
Most commodities like food, clothing, etc are cheaper in the USA compared to Canada for no other reason than buying power. In the USA, you have 320 million people compared to 60 million in Canada.
How many months do USA mothers or fathers get away from their jobs after havbing a child born, without fear of losing their jobs?
In Canada, either the mother or father can get up to a 1 year leave, with pay for bearing a child, and return to their same position at the end of that year leave.
There are pros and cons to living in each country, and since Canada with it's small population and the fact of lying next to the biggest consumer market in the world (America) mean there is little competition to lower prices. Examples include retail banking, airfares, clothing and gas prices.
Canada's banking system, BTW, is the safest place to harbour money. The last time a bank went under in Canada was in 1983.

It's pretty sad when someone is actually living under a socialist system and they aren't even aware of it, and they call it something else.

In the US we have programs that pay people to have kids, no need to take a year off because they are not working. Then we have programs to support the women and kids everafter. Those that want a better life work to pay for those that are on vacation all the time. Doesn't seem fair for those that work to not get the same vacation, but there seems to be a limit to what a company can pay for and still survive in many cases. You Figure? Guess in a perfect world the governments would collect all the wages, ration them out, and everyone would be poor but happy because they had a lot of company.
So you see, it's kind of a black hole, kind of deep, and a challenge to see which politician can give away the most OPM for Votes. People Genuinely unable to work excepted. If you can figure out the end result of any process you are associated with, be my guest. You are in possession of faculties not known to man until history records them, correctly or not.. IMO
You might ask yourself why so many people and other countries Harbor their money in the US in some form, if Canada is the safest Harbor. Canada should be in for a Boom when they all find out. If you already know the outcome of the game, why watch or even participate. Governments should only be the referees of the game, not the pseudo creator of the outcome.

Lived in Canada for 25 years. There you are taxed more than what millioners are taxed here in US, plus on top of that they pay 19% sales tax PST plus GST, (total of up to 54%) government takes all that and give it welfare cases, unemployed get paid so well that the could not make that money working so there is no incentive, while the waiting period for a MRI is 6 months if you can get it prescribed to start with. Than if they retirees cannot live in Canada because of the cost of living and want to move some place cheaper like Mexico, the government screws them and only gives them small portion of their pension. It is a redistribution of income in worst case. I hated working like a dog and having nothing to show for it, and got the hell out of it. Now 20 years ago, amazing difference. Let them drink cool aid and eat cake.

see what you started, and I had to open my big mouth and say, don't come to Canada or you'll really be shocked by the car prices.I wish I had my initial click back, and passed...Oh, once the can of worms is open, it's hard to get the lid shut to stop the release.

Both countries have their benefits and some drawbacks, but were all pretty happy where we live, in a free country.
I don't mind paying my fair share of taxes.
PS: Once the canadian $$ is back at par with the US greenback, maybe I'll drop by to purchase a low mileage, used and cheap C7
