If I was to purchase either a new OEM balancer, or an aftermarket balancer like the ATI ... Anyone know what the approximate cost of labor to replace it would be?
2007 C6 with 49k. Harmonic Balancer has a definite wobble to it, along with the chirp. Does anyone recommend a specific replacement balancer?
I just had mine replaced a couple of weeks ago. I went with a PowerBond HD replacement. My local shop charged me $500 for the labor and I supplied all the parts.
If your car is stock and you don't plan to mod the engine, then the PowerBond damper is all you need. It's vastly superior to the OEM replacement and about the same price (around $100).
While the garage is in there, is there anything I should have replaced?
A new serpentine belt...had mine replaced with an ATI Balancer and ARP bolt, figured I might as well use the best as I don't want to have it done again. Friend of mine (Certified Corvette Mechanic) did it in his garage, took about a week, total parts and labor $832. Good Luck!
I used a local performance shop and they recommended the ATI. Out the door I was at $1050 with new belts and front seal. The ATI is a few hundred more, but with all the favorable mentions on forums and then the shops recommendation, it was a no brainer for me.
I used this one from Summit https://m.summitracing.com/parts/sum-c2501 and installed it myself with a friend helping me. You also need the seal that goes behind the damper, a new bolt and you might as well replace the belts while you are in there. I have been running this one since July and it spins true. Much nicer unit then stock and won't break the bank. I would say it's a good alternative to ATI. Whatever you do don't replace with the stock one.
