Default Variable exhaust options

I have a stock 2005 and would like to have a louder exhaust, but not all the time. I've searched to learn about NPP and M2W, but can't find anything conclusive for an aftermarket retrofit. What are my options? Anything bolt-on? I would prefer something switchable, but an RPM/vacuum system would be acceptable.

B&B fusion has the bi-modal exhaust. Nice setup, but pricey.

So why not retrofit a stock NPP system? Get one of those mild to wild remote thingys to go along with it. Should be straight and to the point.
Or do the QTP cutouts...

I've got the QTP low profile electric remote controlled cutouts on my Vette. I looked into both the B&B Fusion system ($1,800 + installation) and retrofitting the car with a used stock NPP system. I didn't like the problems that people reported with the NPP option including all the vacuum lines that would have to be run. My cutouts are electricly controlled , not vacuum, and can be left in any position I choose. They are also proportional, allowing me to have them open to any degree I desire (or can tolerate). They cost me $400 including remotes and turn downs. I was charged another $400 to install them, but I think that you can probably get someone to do the install cheaper than that. It was just that nobody in my area wanted to do the install because there isn't much room on an A6 car for the cutouts, so I only had one installation source.

Do you have any pictures of your installation?

I added the NPP mufflers to my 2007. Then, bought the retrofit kit from GS Creations I believe.

Aside from headers of course, is there any performance benefit from any of the aftermarket exhausts vs NPP?

I have a 2005 M6. 4 years ago I added 2008 NPP mufflers purchased on ebay and had them installed to LG long tube headers and mid by my local exhaust shop. They fit perfect, look great and sound even better. Mounted a Mild to Wild controller in the back right trunk cubby, ran one vacuum line from the engine and one short one to each muffler and haven't had a bit of trouble since.
Great mod and well worth it IMO!!
Can't remember what I paid exactly but under $1000 for sure.
You will not regret whatever you do to hear the music!!
