need a new battery for my 08 coupe. bought a optima red top but can't get it locked down with the oem hold down clamp. the base of the battery's leading edge is beveled and the battery can easily be pushed out from under the clamp. could somebody tell me what the trick is to get these batteries installed? if not i will have to return it and get something else. thx.
I just put one in my truck and it came with a bunch of adapters for the bottom of it to fit whatever style hold down used. Forgive me if you already used them but you get all the adapters with your battery?
I thought my yellow top couldn't be held down either until I realized that I hadn't pushed it all the way down into the battery tray. Also once you're sure it's down, press the battery forward then hold the clamp back toward the battery while you tighten the bolt.
the battery came with no adapters, just an extra tray in case more height was needed to reach the the connection wires. i pushed the battery all the way to the hold down block and pushed the block up against the battery edge. the bevel on the battery edge is thicker than the lip on the hold down. no way the lip will clear that bevel.
What model # Red Top? I have a Model 75/25 in my `08 and it fits perfect. From the pictures I've seen, it looks like some of the bases can be slightly different.
If my 8 year old Red Top ever dies, I'll replace it with a model 25. The model 34 Red Tops base doesn't look like it would fit, but I know a model 25 will.
