Default TPMS question

I put new Michelins on this past summer and had to have my TPMS's reset at my tire shop. Now that I know their right I don't want to lose it. I would like to remove the wheels over the winter and paint the insides. Question is how far away from the car can I take the wheels before the TPMS gets out of range and looses the connection. I think that's why they were out of wack before (when the tire shop removed them and mounted the new tires). Hope I'm making sense here.

Just mark each tire where they go on the car, put them back in the same place. Should be good to go.

Even if you do mix them up...just go to Discount and theory will reset them.

There is no range concern that will lose the connection, since the only time there is a connection is when the RCDLR (the car) pings the sensors and the sensors reply. What can happen is that swapping the wheels to a different location will cause the DIC reading to be in a different location than where the wheel is located. Since you have different sizes front to rear, the only possible error would be having the DIC read left when the wheel is on the right.

I change wheels when I go racing. So to make sure they always run the same direction and are in the same location, I've painted a white spot on the hubs and on the inside of the wheels on the left side and red on the right side. When I get new tires, I tell them where the wheels are supposed to go.

You can't switch front to rear so all you have to worry about is left or right. Mark them however you like. You can take them 100 miles away, paint them, then bring them back and as long as you replace them on the car in the right position, all will be fine.
