c7 and c6 compare and contrast
Hi all. I thought I would write up a bit about a simple contrast I did with my boyfriends 2016 Stingray BASE Suspension and my 06 with the Mag RIDE.
So I have now had extensive time driving and riding in these cars and while it is probably not exactly the best comparison I can report this.
For simple daily driving down the road with no performance aspects I can report that the mag shocks in my car make it ride more comfortably than the new car with the base suspension. Dont get me wrong they both ride nice but I really think the mag shocks are a BIG deal in these cars if you want one to ride really nice.
I suppose i wrote this so if anyone is considering buying a 03 or newer car and they want a really smooth comfortable ride then I would suggest at least trying a car with the mag shocks.

Katie kudos for posting, your man is a lucky guy to have a GF interested enough to throw your opinion out here for comment. Mag ride is state of the art an not that many have it to express any input. They are putting it on 4x4 pickups too and have used it on off road applications I think Ford on the Raptor was one of the first. Maintenance is always an issue down the road for some but most of the new stuff is quite reliable. Keep posting, a woman's input is always worth consideration, brings a different perspective.

if you want a car that rides nice buy a caddie, I bought a "world class" sports car and I want it to handle like is was on rails. you don't want a "nice ride" or light steering at 150 mph

Mag ride is cool as it not only Improves the ride....it improves handling by keeping the tire patch in contact with the road.

I hit in the 160's just about every lap on track days with my current mag ride, and it handles a lot better than my "non-mag" ride C6 (that had the Z51 suspension setup). It feels very solid in the high 180's too
The ZR1 has mag ride, and it comes standard on all Z07 equipped vettes (C6 and C7) for the same reason - it's better.
An aftermarket coilover setup is the only thing that will compete with it for better handling.

You obviously have not driven a C6 at speed with mag ride then. The softer ride is for the street, and the track settings really firm it up for sport driving.

after having a base coupe with Z51 Sway Bars / Z06 shocks and NO mag ride, and then getting a 427 vert. with it, the Mag Ride keeps the car planted and much better handling than not having it.
by the way, the 427 vert. driven at speeds below 80 has a softer feeling ride than my coupe did, although the only difference would be the springs............ sway bars and shocks on the 427 similar to Z51 models...................

Katie is comparing Corvettes, not Corvettes and "other" cars. Nice post Katie, I have never ridden in magnetic ride Vette.

I did'nt say anything about any other car, FYI the Corvette is a world class sports car, 2005 C6 set the world record for a car of it's type at the "ring"

I've got a GS coupe with magnetic ride, and its absolutely a great option . . . but comparing the ride between any two Corvettes needs to take into account the actual tires on each vehicle as well - especially runflats vs non runflats.
But I'm glad to see the positive comments for the mag ride system, which is also now offered on many cars from many manufacturers.

It's not performance potential that keeps it off race cars. Mag ride could slaughter any fixed setup if tuned right because it can optimize every curve, adjust for braking and acceleration, and even account for tire wear.

I am sorry if anyone thought I was trying to start a big debate. I was only trying to say that for driving down the road on a nice Sunday drive my 06 with mag ride is actually a nicer ride than my 16 boyfirends base stingray.
