Since you don't have a recognized FOB, I believe you will have to have your vehicle towed to a dealership so they can program a new one. --- correction you can buy a new one and program it your self, the directions for reprogramming when a recognized one is not available is in section 2 of the users manual, page 2-7 (2006 manual)
OK... how do I tell if I have a Canadian car? I'm running out of hair to pull out. Thanks in advance.
It's highly unlikely...did you buy it in Canada? You couldn't be much further from Canada and still be in the USA. Get going on getting two new fobs...Ebay is a good place to start, or for more money you can order them at a dealer. Any C6 fob from '05 through '13 will work but the metal key will be a pain in the '08 through '13 fob. Get fobs and then follow the instructions that RickT linked to. Until then, the car isn't going anywhere.
That's a good point. How high do the numbers on your speedo go? I'm not talking about if it reads MPH or KPH, because those can be selected, but the actual hard top end number. I think the oil pressure gauge will have kPa instead of psi. The coolant temp should be C instead of F.
I found a few Canadian RPO codes, which may be helpful. The codes are in the glove box.
Z49: Export Canadian Modification Mandatory Base Euipment
A4G: Override Canadian Requirements
NM5: Emissions System, Canadian Requirements
747:Conversion option, Canadian Chevrolet

Speedo is in MPH, (max speed - 200) all gauges are in PSI, etc. Already have two new fobs from Chevy dealer. Have repeatedly tried to program via RickT's instructions, as well as instructions in my owner's manual. NO LUCK!!! Car refuses to recognize my 5 key turns or either of my new fobs in slot in glove compartment.
I noticed that RICKT's instructions said driver's window must be open. How do I open that window without a fob?
Hate to contemplate having car towed to dealership: Many thousands of $$ invested in performance and appearance enhancement, car is
VERY low and damage will surely be done.
Have tried to get dealer to make house call ... NO LUCK. Running VERY low on hair to pull out.
The only reason that I put the 'window down' item in the instructions is that some people have the autolock enabled and they lock the car during the three 10 minute waiting periods. Getting the car into the program mode is the most common problem in the procedure. In that instruction thread there are pages and pages of tips and tricks that others have done to get the procedure to go. It's alot to read, more than 400 posts, but you can either read it all and try some things or just stop pulling hair out and call the dealer...sorry but it is what it is, there are no miracles here. Make sure the car is on a tender or charger to keep the voltage up while doing it all.
If it ends up at the dealer, there are two things they can do...they can repair the system so that the owner can use the key turn procedure to program fobs, or they can just force program the fobs to the car using the TECH II and leave the programming system inoperative. Make sure that you know and understand which one they are doing. Using the TECH II to force it will only take a couple of minutes and shouldn't be as expensive as the alternative.

Thanks for that info. You say TECH II, and I presume they have to have the car for that procedure. It seems to me that the programming system is already inoperative. I guess it's time to put my feet up & start reading. Car is already on tender ... one of my first investments in maintenance.

Ha, yes, I remember in 1971 standing next to the sign in Key West that says something like, "The southern-most point in the southern-most state in the US." I have a picture of it also . . . somewhere.

The TECH II is GM's proprietary computer interface tool...it will see every item in the computer and read every code etc...it is made to have access to everything, including the fob system. To my knowledge, no other tool has the total access that the TECH II has.
Also, it is not at all a given that the programming system is inoperative...Turning the key turns the lock cylinder but there is also a simple switch at the end of the cylinder that is activated by turning the key. If the contacts for that switch are dirty or disconnected, the system will not kick into program mode. This is but one example of something simple that can disrupt the system. Pour a martini and start reading.
