Greetings to all,
My 08 recently began emitting the fuel smell from the left rear of the car and filling our garage with fumes The dealership said parts are available. My question is: should I replace the right side pump also? The advisor said that the right side tank does not have to be dropped to repair the leak and don't worry about the right side pump. He did suggest replacing the cross over tube. Should I pay extra to drop the right tank and put a new pump in as a precaution? What else should I do while the car is dissected?
The car is automatic with 82k miles (owner is 58 with OCD.)
From what I have read the passenger side pump is not a motorized pump , but it runs off the pressure from the main drivers side pump, so the failure rate shouldn't be as high..I would check around with people that do this for a living, to see what they say..You don't want to have to pay twice to drop the drivetrain because the right side pump failed..On the M6 transmissions you don't have to drop the drivetrain , although some shops still do, on the autos the tank won't physically fit past the drivetrain so it has to be removed..Are they sure the parts are available?.. When I last heard they were still on national backorder at GM...WW
Right tank has a venturi siphon pump. Personally I would replace the RH fuel sending unit which is prone to failure. Can't imagine it is much more work to drop that tank also since the crossover tube is already disconnected.

Thanks, the service advisor said parts are available but I'm going to ask him to make sure they are on site before I leave the car. They are also getting parts to do the emissions recall where they put 2 more cats on. I told him I would rather not do cats, but he said I don't have a choice if I want them to do the other work. Best Regards

The crossover pipe will probable be disconnected anyway, as the service adviser suggested to have it replaced. I've read a lot of people having issues with disconnecting the crossover assembly because the small internal fuel line connectors get stuck together and usually get damaged when removed.

Might as well. It's a $50 part and the passenger side tank comes out easier than the driver side.
