Cerakote materials came in today. Instructions say to blast parts to be coated. Does anyone know if this is mandatory? I got the C3 coating good to 1700 degrees.
Anyone done this yet?

I have done this many, many times and posted here about a month ago about the process. You will need to either blast or hand sand the headers to get them smooth. do not touch them with bare hands afterwards and clean them thoroughly with Acetone afterwards. Get them as smooth as possible and as clean as possible. Apply ONE thin coat of Cerakote NO MORE. This is one of those times that more really is not better. It is not necessary to heat them if you got air dry Cerakote. If you did not then bake them in the oven and install them. I usually get the Cerakote good to 2300-2500 degrees but the headers aren't going to get to 1700 temps either. This is the best thing I did to my headers. NEVER have they rusted, chipped, or lost the coating after applying Cerakote. I can not stress this enough..USE A RESPIRATOR when spraying them. Cerakote is some seriously nasty stuff that you do not want in your lungs
Yes, excellent. Thanks
I'm also going to do my intake cover after getting intake ported... if the headers turn out well... appreciate the link.
Don't forget to take the U clamps to be sandblasted and to also Cerakote them as well. I always Cerakote from the headers all the way to the mufflers and then the axle back to the tips and all hardware/U clamps. All my exhausts are welded front to back but some like the U clamps for easy change. Regardless, do everything you can minus the cats and mufflers all the way to the exhaust tips
